Administrators Eric Posted June 30, 2021 Administrators Share Posted June 30, 2021 I just heard on the radio in the car that Cosby’s conviction has been overturned and they are releasing him. What a world. 2

Huaco Kid
He'll sue the pudding out of the original lawyers / judge / system and be rich again, and all the sugar-babies will start flocking around. 3 1

crockett
In the end, this was the result of the #MeToo movement, much like Kavanaugh. I'd like to know how many women would falsely accuse well known public men, for being abused in their past by nobodies, or for finally having a voice. One reason why I stay single. In these times it is very easy for a guy to get locked up, with a simple, unproven, claim of domestic violence. And in most divorce cases, the man will be more likely to loose the house and end up paying support.

Fog
He was targeted for telling black people the truth. They waited one day short of the twelve year statute of limitations to arrest him for the "crime". I have no idea if he's a nice guy or a creep, but those trials were a circus and a shame to our legal system.
pipedreams
The Blaze has a completely different story than Fox. What they are reporting is completely different and I had never heard before. "Cosby, 83, has served more than two years of a three- to 10-year sentence for his conviction on charges that he drugged and sexually molested Andrea Constand in 2004. The case began in 2005 after Constand went to then-Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce Castor with her allegations. Castor ultimately declined to file charges against Cosby in the case and reached an agreement with the comedian not to prosecute, the court noted. Castor's stuck a deal with Cosby's lawyers that he would not prosecute on Constand's assault charges if Cosby set for a deposition in a civil case Constand had filed against him. Years later, the court said, Castor's successors "did not feel bound by his decision, and decided to prosecute Cosby notwithstanding that prior undertaking."" https://www.theblaze.com/news/pennsylvania-supreme-court-throws-out-bill-cosby-conviction?utm_source=theblaze-breaking&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20210630Trending-BillCosby&utm_term=ACTIVE LIST - TheBlaze Breaking News The state Supreme Court sided with Cosby, ruling that his agreement with Castor should have kept him from being charged in the case.

The charges and conviction took him out of view, giving the black community time to bury his comments. They were true then. They are even more true today.
Fog
I think the white community did a fair amount of the burying too. Can't have the faithful black voter leaving the plantation now.

ChuteTheMall
They decided he had too many accusers at his re-trial. No wonder Philadelphia lawyers can't count ballots.

Fnfalman
The Coz was denied due process. Prosecutors screwed up and allowed a perv to walk free. Don’t blame Bill, blame the DA.
railfancwb
Maybe it is time District Attorneys at all levels were taken off ballots as elected officers. Seems too many convictions and plea bargains are obtained as stepping stones to reelection and/or higher elected office. Let them be appointed by the CEO - mayor, Governor, etc - then in due course submitted on a ballot as retain or release with no opponent.

holyjohnson
this is why the DA`s Office needs to be filled with Capable Lawyers who are on the side of The Law and not just Appointed on the rise wannabe Politicians. that goes for The Asshat Judges who are Wanna be Social Workers with no real intention of Following the Law or intention of allowing Due Process. tous
Are you suggesting that judges and district attorneys appointed by elected mayors, governors or town councils would be less politically corrupt than those elected by a majority of the citizens of the town or state? Now that the hippie socialists own and totally control the vote counting process, no official that isn't a George Soros approved, avowed communist, will ever be elected again. They may allow a few wishy-washy cowards that claim to be Republicans win some insignificant offices, just to support the lie that it's all fair. Welcome to the People's Republic, which is neither of the people or a republic. Edited July 2, 2021 by tous
railfancwb
Not at all. The DAs running for re-election or seeking a higher office have incentives to generate high “conviction” rates thus creating an illusion of being tough on crime. The Duke LaCross player persecution by that DA is a classic case. Subjecting the office of DA to periodic pass/fail review by voters without the competition of an adversarial political contest might produce a more useful environment for striving for actual justice. I say might. With many high profile cases now being tried by MSM actual justice appears increasingly illusive.
gwalchmai
If DAs are appointed won't they be under pressure to make the mayor look good?
tous
Like police chiefs? I suggest that no honest man or woman can be a public servant anymore. Only the venal and corrupt need apply. A pox on them all. Yes, I know that venal basically means corrupt.
