The real deal. A farm boy from West Virginia. Never went to college but became a general. Amazing life. Truly American. God bless him. There are many who want to be like him...but only one Yeager. "Everything is...copacetic," Yeager's radio transmission after breaking the barrier. 4

Huaco Kid
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there, I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air . . . Up, up the long, delirious burning blue I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or ever eagle flew — And, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God. 1

Peng
I really admired the man for how he lived. Moment to moment, always just doing what he loved without fear. I sure can't say I've done that. Too many silly calculations and debates. I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. 1

Historian
Anyone got some Beeman's? He said that before he took this Bell X1 out to break the barrier. He was asking for chewing gum. 1
