Benjamin Franklin said there were only two things certain in life: death and taxes.  But, I'll bet this guy never paid any taxes.

AND, might I add:

The only difference between death and taxes is that death doesn't get worse every time Congress meets.

Ayatollah Khamenei. Is this a title? It seems like that name has been waved around since the Shah was ousted in '79. Has the guy lived that long? The leaders don't usually have long lives and he seemed to be old then.

On the note of his death, be careful with that. Lots of leaders in that part of the world are vicious, ruthless, good for nothing, and despicable. They are "known". The unknown can be pretty concerning. No telling what sort of unhinged lunatic is waiting behind the curtains.

I believe you are thinking of Khomenei, the guy that was a thorn in the Shah's side.

He has indeed shuffled off this mortal coil and is enjoying his 72 virgins.

Actually it is a title. This one was named Ali.  The title translates to, "Supreme leader," or "Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution."

Ayatollah (UK: /ˌəˈtɒlə/ or US: /ˌəˈtlə/; Persian: آیت‌الله‎, romanizedāyatollāh) is an honorific title for high-ranking Twelver Shia clergy in Iran that came into widespread usage in the 20th century.[1][2]

And he's stepping down for health reasons and leaving his son in charge.

Does the Supreme Leader even have any real power in Iranian government, or is he pretty much like a high school mascot?  Also, is Iran an Autocracy, Monarchy, or Constitutional Monarchy?  I mean Iran does in fact have a state political cabinet so obviously can't be considered an Absolute Monarchy or Autocracy right?  Am I missing something?

The nation is run by a parliament, however, there position he has is one of a cleric in charge.   This was a centerpiece in the Islamic Revolution.

It's a a Theorcracy:  A government by divine guidance or by officials who are regarded as divinely guided. In many theocracies, government leaders are members of the clergy, and the state's legal system is based on religious law. Theocratic rule was typical of early civilizations.

As "Supreme Leader" he actually has veto power over he civilian government.

He is to the Iranian civilian government, what all Democrats wish to be to the US Government.  Absolute veto over human and Constitutional Rights.
