I wonder if they are recruiting for the 3rd US Infantry Regiment, The Old Guard? The Old Guard has seen a lot of combat in its long history.

Probably built as an oval track car.

I just watched the documentary The Boys Of Bonneville. About the early days of running on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Before running a straightaway for top speed they ran a gigantic oval for speed over 24 hours. The car that dominated the salt had a 6 inch offset to keep the pressure even in the curves. The documentary is on Disney Plus.

I grew up watching Sprint car races. They always had a pronounced stagger setup. Even with cars that don't run suspension/axle stagger on oval tracks, they will typically run taller tires, with higher tire pressures on the outside tires.

I don't have Disney, or I would watch that show. I love documentaries about stuff like that.

What the heck can get to 101 MPH at 2200 RPM -- with an automatic transmission?

I don't think that they're VDO gauges, so it likely isn't German.

Not Smiths gauges, so it isn't British.

Not Italian, since it is actually running.

I'm guessing that whatever it is, that battery service isn't going to involve just sticking a new Diehard battery under the hood. I'm guessing that is the sort of battery service that kicks your bank account right in the cubes.

Porsche Cayenne. The wife’s car. Went to Wendover for great food at a little dinner. Battery is going out. It takes a lithium battery with extra contacts for the sensors. I’m looking into doing a conversion to AGM batteries. Lithium is expensive.

And I was getting out of the way of motorcycles going WAY faster than me.

I have done 175 on the salt in my 911.

Porsche Cayenne.

Thanks.

They still use VDO gauges?

Does the 8 mean top or overdrive of an 8-speed transmission?

I haven't been inside of a Porsche in years.

I miss it.

8 speed automatic. She loves it. Me, not so much. Drives great but I don’t like all the electronics. I feel like a pilot who needs a flight engineer to run all the electronics.

I miss my 911 but a bad back made it hard to get in and out of. Driving it was easy but it wasn’t getting enough use.
