Here we have the schooner "John D. Colwell" being launched at Rockland, Maine, back in 1906. The Colwell ran aground off the coast of Puerto Rico in February of 1915 and was a total loss.

Coincidentally, the day the Colwell ran aground is the same day that the first German U-Boat campaign of WWI begins with unrestricted attacks against merchant and passenger ships in the waters around the British Isles. Within six months, Allied shipping losses at sea surpass the number of new ships being built.

And then evolved into this

The Holt name is no longer in the Catapillar brand, but the Holt is still a major player in the Cat dealership game.

I'm pretty sure that is a 1937 Studebaker Dictator. This is what one looks like from the front.

Studebaker had car models called 'President' and 'Dictator' in the late thirties. I would love to know if there was a backstory to that.

I remember how proud of his hat my father was.  It was a Stetson.  He felt Stetson showed you were a success  as did his Chrysler cars.  He was concerned about "appearance".  I am not.  My obsession is with accomplishments.  They speak louder than words.
