No one else has mentioned that today, 6 August 2019, is the 74th anniversary of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japans.

We should celebrate the fact the while the Japanese and the Germans were furiously building their Atomic bombs, we simply beat them to the punch.

There is no reason to feel remorse or question the event.  If we didn't develop it and drop it, we would have seen it used on us.

The Japanese often said that our use of the Atomic bomb was inhumane.  I wonder how they would have described their dropping of their Atomic bomb on us!

Look out, Beyond Meat -- a new competitor has emerged in the market of turning vegetables into a food that tastes just like meat. But while companies like Beyond Meat use laboratories to turn vegetables into something tasty, this new process uses a much more natural method: feeding the vegetables to a cow.

The startup, which goes by the much simpler brand name of “Meat,” came upon this process after using hundreds of millions of venture capital dollars to research how to turn vegetable products into something delicious that could be used as a burger. “Vegetables are ugly and horrible, and no one likes them,” said Meat researcher Winston Sullivan. “We tried everything to make them edible, but nothing worked -- except maybe covering them in ranch dressing. But then we saw this creature, a cow, was eating the vegetables -- because it was so dumb and didn’t know any better or something -- and somehow afterward it became filled with tasty meat. It was amazing.”

Consider the situation in the  autumn of 1945.

The Japanese have no navy remaining other than small craft.  No warships, no merchant ships.

The Imperial Army has been decimated, the air force non-existent.

A manufacturing base remains, but with no raw materials that's just a lot of buildings housing big machines.

We know that  Stalin wanted to invade the main island from Manchuria.  Truman  said no.  Invasion cancelled.  Besides, Stalin had his hands full consolidating the Iron Curtain in Europe.

Rather than a land attack with troops, the Allies would have blockaded Japan and continued strategic bombing.

So in 1945, Japan has no resources to feed their population or defend them.

Consider that the atomic weapons were not used.

Japan would have been eventually invaded by the Soviets and the rest of the world would have let them.  It would have been a bloody conflict with perhaps a million dead on both sides with Japan reduced to women and children battling with sticks and ricks.  Unlike the US, the Soviet Army doesn't leave after they win.  Japan would have been just another conquered people behind an iron curtain.  If China wasn't already involved in a civil war, it  is likely that China would have invaded as well.

So, Japan loses perhaps 60% of its population to disease, starvation and war, its infrastructure is completely destroyed, no industry, nor farming and ends up just another Soviet satellite state with a puppet government.

Yeah, the Allies were inhumane.

The same Allies, make that the United States,  that rebuilt the damned country and gave their people liberty.

Yes.  the unique experience in the world is that for this war won by America, we have re-built their economy to be damn near better than ours.

Then Japan was protected by America and with no need for a large military force, the money went into promoting their economy.  They started a war and in present day they seem better for losing.
