Administrators Eric Posted March 4 Administrators Share Posted March 4 What are some things with really silly names? I'll get the ball rolling with the Didgeridoo. Only the Aussies could use a word like that with a straight face.

It has an interesting sound, but a bizarre name. I've played one of those. It's actually a bowed instrument like a violin. Violin bows are made of horse hair and a Hurdy-Gurdy uses a horse hair Belt sometimes mounted on leather and needs to have Rosin applied to it just like a violin bow does. It makes a wonderful sound. I used to play a mountain Dulcimer with a violin bow and it made a nice sound too. The one in the picture shows it with the keyboard cover closed.

Administrators Eric Posted March 4 Author Administrators Share Posted March 4 Onomatopoeia is not only a silly-sounding word, the spelling is unnecessarily complicated. Couldn't it make do with maybe half as many letters? If onomatopoeia was an onomatopoeia, I wonder what it would look like?
