TBO
James Bond has a 'severe' drinking problem, researchers argue https://www.foxnews.com/health/james-bond-has-a-severe-drinking-problem-researchers-argue Sent from my Jack boot using Copatalk
crockett
They don't say! Did those snowflake researchers fall of the Trump bash bandwagon?
janice6
From the article: "...During his six decades on screen, a drink touched the secret agent’s lips 109 times at an average of 4.5 times per movie, the researchers found...." My question is. Does the whole movie (movies in this case) each occur over only a few hours? Or is the drinking spread over some number of days, and if so, how many days. If it's metabolized from scene to scene it makes a difference. Time is a factor in Alcohol since it's processed in the body. Is it possible that this isn't as bad as they make it out to be. No mention in their determination addresses the total time involved from drink to drink, just the total number of drinks. Mind you, I don't drink so I don't have an axe to grind in this. But, I'm interested in whether "experts" have some motivation to present the "details" in a different light.
Al Czervik
Darren and Larry Tate were habitual imbibers, too. But, they weren't alcoholics as they did not attend meetings outside of work. 1

Maybe these experts think that it's OK to drink in the books, since it takes longer to read a book than to watch a movie, so time is a relevant factor again. 1

Historian
In all seriousness: If someone really lived like Bond....and I've seen almost all the movies...do you think he expects to see another day? Bond is about violence, sex, eating well, and drinking. There but for the grace of God go, I. Edited December 10, 2018 by Historian

I just watched Man with the Golden Gun yesterday and was thinking how much I would have liked to have shared a bottle of PhuYuk '74 with Brit Eklund and Maud Adams . Historian
I admit it: Three years ago i purchased a very nice tuxedo. And promptly purchased a PPK to go with it. German made in 1954. Historian, James, historian. (hit the music) 6
Brown Hawk
Some people need to get a life. As for Bond, he was taken from a real life spy who covered himself as a dissolute playboy with the drinking and womanizing. And no, that one never killed anyone. But Fleming also knew some some who did. Hawk
fortyofforty
He also smoked, at least in the originals. So, now what? I suspect he'd have myriad venereal diseases, too, but would have had plenty of fun contracting them. As was said, the "researchers" need to get lives. Or, is this just a way to get attention?
jmohme
So researchers argue that a fictional character has a severe drinking problem. Just how severe can a fictional drinking problem be?
minervadoe
109 drinks since 1962. That sounds like a problem to me. In fifty six years, that is almost two drinks per year. His cover as a temperance protestor is blown for sure. 1

Like the late, great Stan Lee said about who would win a fight between say the Hulk and Superman, it depends on who is writing it. 1
deputy tom
As I've said elsewhere, I usually have three Martinis during one of the 007 movies. Those researchers need to get a real job. tom. 2 1
tadbart
I had to do a paper a few years back on promoting a healthy lifestyle to a movie character. I chose Doc Holliday from Tombstone. You think Bond has a vice problem??? Doc was on a whole 'nother level.
