You wouldn't believe what they force through similar roads in Central and South America on similar roads.  Most of the time there were no traffic lights. And crosswalks were a suggestion.

I have been driven through Beirut, Lebanon (1959) near midnight, by a taxi that only used the headlights for the really bad intersections (he said) and at breakneck speed in the dark.  Nothing surprises me about people, cars, and roads anymore.

One is his son George Washington Custis Lee, and the other is is chief of staff Col Walter Taylor.
