In our current world, there is nothing but bad news, complaints, and things that make us irate.  Politics, the economy, inflation, war, crime, you name it.  So I thought we might dedicate a thread to good news.  Things that restore our faith in humanity.

I'll start.

Students Raise $270K for 80-Year-Old Janitor to Retire After He Had to Rejoin Workforce

The students of one Texas high school have stepped up to ensure that their school’s janitor receives the retirement he deserves.

Some students at Callisburg High School in northern Texas were saddened to see that an elderly man had come out of retirement to fill the role of the school’s janitor in January, according to KXII-TV.

Many students recognized that it wasn’t right that an 80-year-old man had to perform arduous labor because he couldn’t afford to be retired anymore.

One TikTok video was ultimately vital in making the cause of Mr. James’ retirement a reality, according to KXII.

Mr. James dutifully cleaned the school hallways in the video, with the uploader explaining that a landlord has raised the senior’s rent — forcing him out of retirement.

105-Year-old WWII Veteran With No Surviving Relatives Receives 3,000 Birthday Cards

A World War II veteran with no surviving relatives celebrated his 105th birthday with more than 3,000 cards from kind-hearted strangers.

Ernest Horsfall, who has seen 27 Prime Ministers and five British monarchs in his lifetime, said he was ‘surprised and amazed’ at how many people wrote to him.

He was showered with cards from generous well-wishers after the Royal British Legion called for the brave ex-servicemen to be honored for his landmark birthday.

After opening all his cards, he said he was looking forward to spending time with his girlfriend Margaret, 63, who flew in from Iceland to be with him on his special day.

“I’m utterly surprised and amazed at the number of greeting cards that came my way,” he said from a seat in his home in Preston.

Ernest was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, in 1918, three weeks after the Royal Air Force was formed.

He was married for 57 years and had a son and a sister, but they have both now passed away.

Police in Maine Show Up at Boy’s House for Heartwarming Reason

Generally, the police showing up at a party means that the party is over, not just getting started. But for a young boy in Scarborough, Maine, named Myles Roman, the guests of honor had arrived at his birthday party when the police department rolled up alongside firetrucks, an ambulance, and a K-9 unit.

The Scarborough Police Department posted about the party and included a few cute, heartwarming pictures of them with Myles and his family on Facebook, saying:

About a month ago, a young man named Myles came to the Scarborough Police Department with something special in mind. He dropped off an invitation inviting the ENTIRE POLICE DEPARTMENT to his birthday party! Myles’ mother told us how excited Myles was to have special guests come to his party, so of course, we couldn’t let him down.

On Saturday, Sgt. Flynn, Ofc. Greenleaf, Ofc. Murphy, K9 Tucker and several Scarborough, Maine Fire Department firefighters made it a point to stop in for Myles’ birthday party! Myles and his friends were very excited to see the police cars, fire trucks, ambulance and obviously K9 Tucker! Sgt. Flynn presented Myles with some birthday gifts (Paw Patrol of course…) and Ofc. Greenleaf brought some Scarborough PD SWAG for Myles and his friends. Everyone had a great time at the party and enjoyed hanging out with Myles and his friends and family!

Veteran Wounded in Afghanistan, a Purple Heart Recipient, Given Mortgage-Free Home

A veteran wounded in Afghanistan received keys for a renovated mortgage-free home for his family.

Former U.S. Army Specialist Cody Blevins, his wife, and their three children appeared on the Today show in May, and were surprised with their new home in Dayton, Ohio, WDTN reported.

“It’s been beyond belief, you know, like I said, I didn’t expect anything like this,” Blevins told WDTN. “Then for them to give us a home, completely renovated — it’s amazing.”

Blevins joined the Army in 2009. He was deployed in Afghanistan for six months supporting combat operations. Wounded in action, Blevins received a Purple Heart.

Military Warriors Support Foundation and Wells Fargo teamed up to give Blevins and his family their new home.

Sandra Ignaszewski with Military Warriors Support Foundation said that the organization has helped find homes for 900 veterans across the country, Dayton 247 reported. She said this home is a perfect fit for Blevins and his family.

“Cody was born and raised here in the Ohio area,” Ignaszewski said. “He knows it very well. He has the family support here that he needs, he has friends, and additionally, other services.”

In addition to the new house, Blevins and his family will have access to free financial and family mentoring. The organization has helped veterans pay off $27 million in debt through its mentorship program.

The nonprofit has also given away 150 vehicles to date, according to its website.

“This was a memorable moment for Cody and his family, and we are grateful to the crew at TODAY with Hoda and Jenna for capturing the heart of what we do,” Military Warriors Foundation said in a statement. “A big thank you to Wells Fargo who helped make this special moment happen for the Blevins family.”

WATCH: World War II Veteran Carl Reid Celebrates Hundredth Birthday With 4,500 Cards

A World War II veteran received more than 4,500 birthday cards in celebration of his 100th birthday on June 15.

Carl Reid joined the Army in 1944 and served as a supply clerk and truck operator for the 27th Infantry Division, NewsWest9 reported. In late May, the former Army corporal asked his fellow Americans via social media to celebrate his birthday with him by sending cards to Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home in Big Spring.

Reid hoped for 100, but he received thousands. He celebrated his birthday surrounded by friends, family members, and stacks of cards. He received cards from 48 states and also one from Canada.

“It’s nice to have all my friends here,” Reid told NewsWest9. “I was broken up when I got out there.”

After leaving the Army Reid raised his family on a farm. His sons said their father gave them a good life. Reid’s son Donald Reid said the party was meant to shower their dad with the love and affection he deserves.

“[Just to say] thank you for all the things he had done for us when we were growing up and continued to do over our lives, and to just tell him how much I love him,” said Donald. “He’s always been there for us if we needed anything, and just a good, strong man that you could lean on.”

“[A]ccording to US Department of Veterans Affairs statistics, 167,284 of the 16 million Americans who served in World War II are alive in 2022,” the National WWII Museum site says.

When the firefighter, who is now her adoptive father, opened the baby box at Ocala Fire Rescue on January 5 and noticed a shoelace was tying off the baby’s umbilical cord, he rushed her to the hospital.

It was not long before the couple began the adoption process and she went home with them two days later, according to her adoptive mother.

“We really felt in our hearts that we wanted, to let the birth mom know in some way shape or form that she is safe, she is happy, and she is very loved,” the woman added, noting she officially became part of their family in April.

70 million people cheer on Texas boy who knocked on neighbor's door looking for new friends

Shayden has autism, which means he has a hard time connecting with people. Needless to say, Shayden needs some friends (don't we all?), so earlier this month he just started knocking on doors in his neighborhood looking for some.

So what did Shayden's neighbor Brennan do with the video he was able to upload to the web from his security feed?

He posted it to TikTok where it's received over 70 MILLION VIEWS!!!!

Not only that, but Brennan also started a GoFundMe page for Shayden, and it brought in $37,000!!

They had to cut it there, as the funds were way more than they expected to raise.

And now, all because of this viral video, Shayden has friends all over the world. He's got peers in England, Australia, and even in China, which is just great if you're a gamer like Shayden.

So it looks like, to say the least, Shayden's plan of going door to door looking for friends has totally worked out in his favor.

And that's all it takes, folks, is a little effort.

God bless you, Shayden Walker!

And God bless Brennan Ray, too!
