Land O’ Lakes has an updated look for 2020.

The farmer-owned dairy cooperative, which produces butter, cheese and other milk products, has dropped the Native American maiden image from its packaging, opting instead for just a landscape.

The logo, which has been the company’s label for nearly 100 years since it was founded in Minnesota in 1921, has been called “racist” and criticized for its use of the “butter maiden.” Many on social media are celebrating the move, criticizing the company for using the image of a Native American woman for its branding in the first place.

The new label was announced in a press release from Land O’ Lakes in February, though it made no specific mention of removing the Native American image from all products.

The press release shared “the new packaging will show up in a variety of ways, including through a new front-of-package design that features the phrase ‘Farmer-Owned’ above the LAND O LAKES brandmark,” as well as include pictures of farmers and co-op members on the label.

The new label was announced in a press release from Land O’ Lakes in February.

“As Land O’Lakes looks toward our 100th anniversary, we’ve recognized we need packaging that reflects the foundation and heart of our company culture—and nothing does that better than our farmer-owners whose milk is used to produce Land O’Lakes’ dairy products,” said Beth Ford, President and CEO, Land O’Lakes, in the press release.

“As a farmer-owned co-op, we strongly feel the need to better connect the men and women who grow our food with those who consume it,” Ford said.

Why an American Indian anyway?

shouldn't it be a cow

.

It's Minnesota, Here they want to give everything back to the Indians.  The White Guilt is overwhelming with our liberals.

They got rid of Warren's picture since she was more of a White Cow than an Indian.

I never folded the picture. I used an x-atco knife. The end result was more suitable for framing.

When I was in grade school, every kid knew how to modify the Butter box to show this.  It soon became so common that it wasn't interesting anymore.

As a kid at breakfast...this was our literal "melting pot" at the breakfast table.

And we're Irish.

Me too.  We were young and stupid and didn't know yet what was supposed to offend us. It took the schools a few years to get the student indoctrinated.

I always thought the Indian logo looked kind of old fashioned, disconnected and out of place (what with dairy being more of a European thing).  I'll be interested to see their newer, more modern logo.

Don't mess with my Quaker Oats though.  I'm not sure I could find it without that smiling face.

If you like oats.. may I politely suggest trying Bob's Red Mill "Extra Thick Rolled Oats"... I have 100lbs of Quaker oats in LTS, love them.. but tried the BRM's when it was all I could find on a camping trip.. hurts me to say, I have stopped rotating for now, and just keep buying the Bob's.. It has "Bob's" face on it.. LOL

Might we suggest this as the new logo for them?

I liked the older logo with the pretty indian (native American) on it.

I don't see anything wrong with it.  Except it may not be accurate. She might not have worn that feather.

The same people who don't like this think it's a shame the army's baddest, boldest, gonna get you helicopter is named after a tribe of people who were true warriors.

The Apache.

No body remembers the Ohio Wimps.  That tribe isn't around anymore.

In the interests of diversity, Rachel Dolezal is going to be the new spokesperson for Aunt Jemima

The Indian logo fits in with the Minnesota theme of "the land of sky blue waters", It's from the early Indian descriptions of this area.

The Indian influence is strong, with the name Mississippi, and many other Indian names and phrases.

Now it's just a symbol for more Casinos and other excuses for taking money for not harassing public works..
