an Apprentice Wood Worker's first real serious project was to construct his own tool case.  It was serious and had to reflect his skill with wood tools.

So they usually made most admirable tool cases as a physical resume for work.

Back then, it was required that you kept your cutting tools razor sharp.  To prevent these tools from rusting, even in high humidity places like the coast, (no anti-desiccants back then) they would put an unwrapped cake, a piece of Camphor, in places in the tool box.

The Camphor cake would slowly outgas over time with the case closed and the outgassing would coat each tool with a molecular thin film of Camphor oil, and prevent rusting.

I store my handguns each in a Ziploc plastic bag with a cake of Camphor.  I have never had any rust problem, and the Camphor oil is so thin it isn't noticeable on the grips.   Those old guys were quite smart!

That is a quite practical solution.

The car's structure to hold passengers was first constructed and designed by "Carriage Makers" not the car company.

For example, General Motors had kickplates with the label "Body by Fisher".

Our local Fisher Body Works was in Dravosburg Pa. tom.
