The subject of the "Good Old Days" in New York City came up when Carson referenced Tony's career in entertainment. Randall went into a tirade on how bad the "Good Old Days" in New York City were. He told of the clouds of Soot 'cause everyone used Coal in their fireplaces to keep warm, the retching stink of the Horse feces in the streets, the dirt everywhere and the lack of modern medical treatments. He had a litany of reasons why they weren't "Good Old Days" for those who lived them. He painted a picture of a day when sickness was the norm, many of today's minor illnesses would kill you, and filth was everywhere due to the congestion. Where just living was toil for the average person. These old pictures stir nostalgia in the viewers, but his first hand description of the actual day to day conditions painted a picture of a harsh life at best. 2

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk It was found that the consumer would read the price and think whole numbers, when the fraction actually made it considerably more. It was considered a sales marvel because the public fell for it, hook, line, and sinker.
