Time Square, 1936.

I remember Tony Randall being interviewed on the Carson Show, quite long ago.

The subject of the "Good Old Days" in New York City came up when Carson referenced Tony's career in entertainment.  Randall went into a tirade on how bad the "Good Old Days" in New York City were.

He told of the clouds of Soot 'cause everyone used Coal in their fireplaces to keep warm, the retching stink of the Horse feces in the streets, the dirt everywhere and the lack of modern medical treatments.  He had a litany of reasons why they weren't "Good Old Days" for those who lived them.

He painted a picture of a day when sickness was the norm, many of today's minor illnesses  would kill you, and filth was everywhere due to the congestion.  Where just living was  toil for the average person.

These old pictures stir nostalgia in the viewers, but his first hand description of the actual day to day conditions painted a picture of a harsh life at best.

Captain Louis E. Curdes sitting in his P-51 fighter, Philippines, 1945. He is the only person that has ever been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for shooting down his girl friend… His Army nurse girlfriend was onboard the American DC3 he shot down

Notice the aircraft he has shot down painted on the side of his airplane. 7 German, 1 Italian, 1 Japanese and 1 American… 1 American?.. Yes and his grilfriend was in the Amercian aircraft he shot down! No Kidding this is a true happening.

Here is the complete story as written for a newspaper article of the time:..."

When did the fractional cent become $0.009 everywhere? And why?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It was found that the consumer would read the price and think whole numbers, when the fraction actually made it considerably more.

It was considered a sales marvel because the public fell for it, hook, line, and sinker.
