A Qatari representative to the Arab Parliament, Essa bin Ahmad Al-Nassr, reportedly recently said that there can be “no peace or negotiations” with Israel and that Hamas’ October 7 terrorist attacks were only the prelude to Israel’s destruction. The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) translated his remarks that were posted Monday on social media. According to the Qatari Shura website, he was promoted in Qatar’s military to an assistant commander of the Emiri Guard for Intelligence and Security at the rank of brigadier general. He also holds positions on the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee and the Cultural and Media Affairs Committee, among others. His remarks come as President Joe Biden has largely relied on the Qataris to try to negotiate with Hamas to release the Israeli and American hostages that it kidnapped on October 7. While some hostages have been released, many remain in captivity or have been killed while in Hamas custody. Biden has since appeared to blame Israel for the hostages not being released and has demanded that they enact an “immediate ceasefire” in-exchange for nothing from Hamas. “There can be no peace or negotiations with the Zionist entity, for one reason and one reason only: Their faith does not allow for negotiations,” Al-Nassr claimed, according to a translation provided by MEMRI. “Rather, it (condones) deception, the violation of agreements, and lies.
