So all this guy did was use and existing principle in a horizontal position to achieve the same result.  As others did before him.

I think Tous and others would have a great deal to say about the inherent drag in this design for an aircraft.

And they can be inverted and used to harvest wheat!

But, designers were thinking about the flying wing concept even as early as 1945.

I'm sure any decent aeronautical engineer from early on, could see the obvious appeal to minimal drag and maximum lift.  The devil was in the control details.
