On this the 50th anniversary of the first humans to walk on the moon...

It occurred to me to wonder if possibly the Apollo voyages represent the high tide of the United States.

As on the beach, so with nations... the high tide mark becomes evident only when the tide begins to recede.

And to all indications he made some good knives.

He made some of the best knives ever made and there are dozens, maybe hundreds of knifemakers building versions of his designs. There have been damned few knifemakers that have influenced the craft like Loveless did.

NASA projected an image of the Saturn 11 rocket on the side of the Washington monument for several days and then projected the entire launch and boost sequence there, on the anniversary of the launch. That must have been something.

A magnificent idea.  How amazing the optics are to do this.

That's the one!

I found some clones (cold steel?),  but even they were sold out / discontinued.

I really need that knife.

It is damned hard to find one of Cold Steel’s Black Bear Classics. People that have them hang onto them. Same with the Loveless knives, obviously. There are a hell of a lot of folks making that style of knife, but none of them are cheap.

These guys make one:

Here’s a Loveless knife for only $24,500!

Here is an interesting Böker model for just under $400. Böker makes some good knives.

Cold Steel has a cheap knockoff of the design. I haven’t seen one in person, but I have an instinctive distrust of sub-one-hundred-dollar copies of famous knife designs. This isn’t their Black Bear Classic. It is a low-end knockoff, although it claims to have a Japanese stainless blade.

I don’t think that you will find a quality version of this knife for less than $400 and probably closer to $600 or $700, but maybe you’ll get lucky.

My deal is, is, that I'd actually take it camping.  And hack a snake. And cut sausage.  And make pointy sticks. Clean fish.  (Like my Randalls) (like God intended)

I'd make that knife valueless.

I still need one, though.

Well, check out this link. It is selling in the $60 - $80 range. It might be a good camp knife.
