Faster than an SR-71 Blackbird?

Are they ignoring the Space Shuttle?

It goes 17,500 MPH (15,200 knots, 28,000 KPH.)

Yes, it's in space and not atmosphere, but to get to that velocity it has to go pretty damned fast on the way up.

Impressive.  So how many people will it carry?  The Black Bird carried two!  What we are seeing is the ability to fly an engine with some control over direction and altitude.

That's a long cry from a manned craft that supports data acquisition and experimentation on board by people.

What was that statement about a fast heavy airplane?  Oh, yes.  We can fly a brick, if you give me engines powerful enough.

It's more that flying an engine fast, it's about its worth to society and research aside from fast and straight.

The F-105 Thunderchief was proof that given enough thrust, a brick will fly.

The F-4 Phantom II was proof that given enough thrust, an anvil will fly.

The B-52 Stratofortress was proof that given enough thrust, a house will fly.

NB  The F-104 Starfighter was basically an engine with a cockpit attached.

It went really fast, but not always in the direction the pilot wanted

They are taking an impressive iterative approach.  This first version is more than a test bed for taxiing.  It is going to switch on a ton of subsystems for the first time and the feedback they get sounds as if it will be rolled back into the next iteration of their spec.  From the bench to a rolling test bed in 37 days is an impressive demonstration of modern project management techniques.  Kudos.

I wonder if the final version will resemble their initial mock up.

Let's have them test the result of a human falling from FL 350 without a parachute.

Advise that they flap their arms really fast -- before they freeze into a Popsicle.

Start with Epstein's list of clients; beginning with Bill Clinton.

Holding on to Hillary.
