jmohme
It might be a smarter move that you think. If said passengers are really supersized, they might just make of for the loss of revenue in fuel savings. Just be careful Soutwest and dont stack them all on the same side of the isle.

If I buy a ticket on Monday for $100, which is the standard fare, and on Tuesday they change to a "free fattie" policy, does it change the utility of my $100 ticket? So yeah, as long as it doesn't change my cost, it's no big deal, right?

janice6
The best way to styme and change a bureaucratic policy you don't like is to utilize it to it's fullest. Use it against them. I learned this in the Navy. Do everything you can to use those seats and make the company fly half full airplanes. It will change pretty quick when they lose money. Make the argument that by charging for luggage by the pound they are being "Racist", "Sexist", or "discriminatory" in their application of their policy, I can see some ambulance chaser just salivating over bringing a lawsuit over this.

GT4494
Standard used to be 170lbs for each passenger but the FAA has updated the requirement to: "Passenger Weight. Because the aircraft is certificated under the normal category of 14 CFR part 23, and because it is originally type certificated (TC) for five or more passenger seats, it would be appropriate in this example to use the weights derived in Chapter 3, Methods to Determine the Weight of Passengers, paragraph 3.2. For this example, it is assumed that the operator has a no-carry-on baggage program; therefore, it is also assumed the operator should use a standard average passenger weight of 189 pounds in winter and 184 pounds in summer."
