"By Friday morning, April 8, Texas DPS inspectors all but halted international trade at America’s busiest border truck crossing, the Colombia Solidarity International Bridge to Laredo. Trucks back up so far that one observer friend of mine who flew a drone high overhead (see photo below) said the end of the line could not be seen, not for “miles and miles and miles.” The same scene played out at one of America’s other busiest land ports, the international bridge connecting Ciudad Juarez to El Paso. Truck lines carrying Mexico’s economic lifeblood – and not a little of Texan lifeblood too – backed up far into Juarez."

"PHARR, Texas — Commercial traffic snarled badly here over the weekend and into Monday, coming to a near standstill after state troopers stepped up safety inspections under orders from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

The head of the Texas Independent Produce Association said the flow of produce across the border was taking 10 times longer than usual, stretching the usual wait of three hours to more than 30. Truckers are being advised to take food and medicine with them when they head to the border.

“The tie-ups are incredibly worrisome, and truckers are reporting 36 hours in line,” said Dante Galeazzi, the CEO and president of the Texas International Produce Association in nearby Mission. “How do they go to the bathroom and eat? It’s 100 degrees every day.”

Frustrated truckers and produce trade officials are pleading with Abbott to pay more attention to the need for a smooth flow of trade traffic between Texas and Mexico, its No. 1 trading partner. Abbott ordered the safety inspection of every commercial vehicle crossing the border by DPS officials, hoping that such inspections would reveal unauthorized migrants or illicit drugs being smuggled into the U.S."

Dang. If only there were international laws about crossing the border, and agreements to follow such laws...

I commend the effort. Although, I suspect the trucking companies will adapt. There are other ways to cross the border.

Yeah, but it adds 1200+ miles to the trip, so they are screaming.

I guess if Biden wants us to feel the pain of war on the other side of the world our side can share the pain of the real war right here at home.

There are Mexican ports on the Pacific which supposedly are being upgraded significantly to handle the large container ships. There are direct rail connections into the States as well as highways.

Newsom and coharts want to reduce pollution in California. Having container ships transaction to Mexican ports from Southern California can help with that. Might be a couple extra days on the ocean if ships are initially pointed to those Mexican ports, but still much quicker turnaround than anchoring outside California ports for a month or so.

And I assume that China owns those ports or will very soon.

Delivered on Chinese ships.

Shipped by Chinese rail.

To Chinese warehouses.

Them to Walmart.

Or maybe Mexico isn't stupid enough to sell their farmland, infrastructure and country to the Chinese communists.

The United States isn't.
