Interesting encounter with a Berner

Had an interesting Saturday night while playing with my band.

There was a gentleman sitting at the bar near the band and was watching us during our first and 2nd set. He'd clap and throw compliments our way. During one of the breaks I went outside to check out the incoming thunderstorms and out walked the guy behind me. I'm checking out the night sky, he walks up and starts talking about his experiences with bands and performers. That's all cool. Come to inspect this guy a bit closer and he's wearing a Bernie 2020 hat and a Feel the Bern T-shirt. I'm thinking to myself, "I hope no one sees me."

We carry on a few more pleasantries complimenting my band, and other stuff.

Then he starts going off about Bern. ..... You should see him. He's amazing. He's going to fix this country. He shows off his hat, shows off his T-shirt then pulls it up to show the shirt underneath and says, "Normally I have a F-Trump T-shirt on under the Bernie one." What he didn't notice and I couldn't help was his zipper was down and you could see vag. (I'm kidding but he was that bad.)

I looked at him and said, "Hey, I'm here to play some music, drink some beer and make a night of it. Not talk politics." His comeback was....."Go ahead you Republican and vote for your narcissist and destroy this country." My retort was, "Well I guess it's better than Socialism." His come back,......Ready for this......"It's not Socialism it's Democratic Socialism."

Sigh

Can't see the contradiction.  Too embroiled with adoration to see the real dictator underneath.  Letting passion displace reason.  Can't be cured.

i was raised to never talk about Religion or Politics with anyone you don`t know.

it has served me well, particularly during the last Election here after Bernie was DNCed.

but the Bernie people are seriously warped and delusional i have to make some level of small talk with people and have learned to hide my smiles and sometimes rolling inner laughter at the **** some of these MoonBats come up with.

well done on defusing the situation, those people are ticking time bombs.

I was asked once (seriously) why white people have so much trouble having a discussion about racism

I said

we don’t have trouble talking about racism. We have a problem accepting the basic premise that our very existence is the epitome of racism and that very breath we take that isn’t polluted is privileged, and that going to work, cashing my check, and paying my taxes is an act of violence against POC

“See, you’re so close to it that you cant even see it”

I cant see it because it doesn’t exist. Lowborn is a circumstance, not a condition.

then I went to work.

New and improved socialism.  All Sanders does is sit up there and slander Trump and promise the moon.  The people that can't see through him must have smoked carpet fiber because the guy couldn't pass a basic economics course.

The reason that white men are ridiculed for discussing or expressing opinions regarding ‘racism’ is that Marxist Ideologues conveniently enumerated specific criteria rendering their commentary illegitimate:

1) White Men are oppressors by virtue of their race using law enforcement, the criminal justice system, and racial discrimination in the workplace to maintain their positions of dominance.

2) All White Men illegitimately obtain their jobs, wealth, property and positions of authority through white privilege.

3) White Men built this country with the sweat and labor of slaves and unskilled Black laborers forced into poverty through discrimination.

Based on these forgone assumptions, White Men cannot legitimately understand or render commentary on the plight of the Black Man......

What kind of a shitstick still goes on about politics after you politely try to bow out of a political conversation?  And then he just assigns you republican.  I might have said "yes, I must be a Trump supporter, we seem to be the only ones that can keep our political opinions to ourselves".

Oh it's not Socialism, it's Democratic Socialism, where you get to vote. That's the kind of socialism they had in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) where everyone got to vote.

That environment is described as “One person, one vote, once.”

Yes but in the USSR you were under one-party rule and there was no choice  of who to vote for. You could either vote for a Communist or a Communist.

If the Democrats win the next election we will be under one party rule where the only people who will get elected will be the Democratic Socialists who promise the most free stuff. And with open borders and unlimited immigration of illegal third world immigrants the votes of US citizens will be nullified by the voted of Illegals.

Assuming that's true, then why do they keep asking us to understand. If we can't understand then just leave us the heck alone.

Thanks. When you are an "entertainer" you are going to always piss off someone when you use your stage to force opinion. Never mind Hollywood, lol. I want to market my band not my political view. So there's a fine line I don't cross when out in public. This guy had me cornered but I was well armed. I have a brain and think for myself. :)

I'm a white man who grew up in the 1950's and saw how black people were treated and was taught by my parents that it was wrong and believed in my heart that it was wrong. I know more about real prejudice and real injustice than younger Black people do today because I witnessed it first hand even though it was not directed at me. I also was a young man during the civil rights movement and had a great deal of admiration for Martin Luther King.

You had the man at a disadvantage by engaging in a battle of wits with an an unarmed opponent.  The other thing is that being either an artist or a musician, many in the arts are left wing wackos. I'm an artist and managed an art gallery for about a year and was actually surprised to find a couple of other artists who were quite conservative.

When dealing with other artists or with potential buyers, I always avoided the subject of politics but ran into one artist at a gun show and slowly learned that he was a closet conservative, and the woman who's gallery I managed was not only conservative but was very outspoken about it which did her a lot of harm in her standing in the local art community. I was always able to avoid political discussions by saying that I thought politics was bull**** (which is true) or by saying that I didn't care about politics an that I was only interested in art, which is only half true, as I have many other interests.

They use the ‘Victims of Racism Narrative’ to attract and motivate a specific political faction by provoking anger and a sense of shared identity with others in their communities whom are only too glad to share the belief that their impoverished condition arose not from their own lack of ambition or their poor choices in life but from a common heritage of victimization for which they now deserve compensation and a chance to strike back at everyone sharing the genetic heritage of their strategically chosen ‘cracker’ shapegoats (whether or not their ancestors happened to be slave owners....., or whether their own ancestors even happened to be slaves).

I agree.  In a Democracy the majority tell the minority what to think and how to live.

In Socialism everybody tells everyone else, what to think and how to live.

In both cases.  People are being told what to think and how to live.

Rather like being in school.

Our Constitutional Republic was designed as a modified Representative Democracy with the specific intent to preserve the essential rights and freedoms of individual citizens while imposing minimal government interference during the course of their lives. It’s intent was to insulate and protect individual rights and freedoms despite changing moral, ethical, legal, economic and cultural demographics and vacillating public opinions so as to protect both the majority and the minority from persecution and/or abuse by a government by consent of the people to a tyranny.

This unique idea was paraphrased from the political arrangement of the Iroquois Confederacy (League) by Thomas Jefferson and incorporated into our Constitution with the intent to insure that individual States and their citizens were equally represented within a limited centralized government which provided advantages that they could not obtain without mutual collaboration.

The Electoral College was another brilliant intervention that was established as a compromise during the Constitutional Convention of 1787 to induce ratification by Representatives from low population states that were fearful their States could be disadvantaged by those in Congress whom represented high population states in matters that could effect the welfare and economy in the States they represented. It worked.....and still does.
