Clancy
I have mixed feeling about this. I understand the frustration behind the closures and quarantines. I am not happy about it, either. But I have had 2 friends die from the Communist Chinese Virus this week. Both felt the quarantine was bullshit and refused to stay home. Both were healthy and under 50. I have an uncle in the hospital now who was diagnosed with the virus, he is 80 and healthwise a train wreck. It looks like he is going to survive. My cousin's youngest son, 23 and healthy and was taken off a ventilator last week. It looks like he is going to make it. The one thing they all had in common was a disdain for the shelter in place orders. I live in a county where, during the summer months the population triples, from about 70,000 to over 200,000 people. Almost all of that increase comes from NYC, which is the epicenter of the virus. The locals here are trying to get the summer camps shut down but the state has blocked every attempt. We are sweating blood, waiting to see what happens with the virus comes up with them, because we really expect it is going to be bad. 2
gwalchmai
My sincere condolences for your losses, Clancy. I think, even considering this Chinese Plague, we're better off erring on the side of liberty and freedom. I agree with the wisdom of social distancing, but I draw the line at the .gov mandating it. We as citizens have to become more responsible for our own safety and if it takes a pandemic to teach us that so be it. 4

Mrs.Cicero
It wasn't the Stay At Home order that set MI off, it was the governor's ludicrous overreach telling us we couldn't get in a motorboat, but we could still kayak and canoe... we can't get on a motorcycle and go for a ride to nowhere, (but we can still get in a car with 8 other people)... we can't buy paint or many of the items needed to do home improvement while we are stuck at home... we can't buy seeds or plants at a store of over 50,000 sq ft even though we are already in the store for other purchases like groceries... so we have to go somewhere else (a physically smaller store) and potentially spread or catch the virus in that other location because the governess thinks she has the power to tell us what we can and cannot buy during this tyrannical quarantine. Telling people to call 911 on their neighbors was the most disgusting thing (and a great way to crash the 911 system for real emergencies!). I do not personally know a single person with the virus. 75%+ of the cases are in Detroit. The hospitals in the rest of the state are furloughing staff indefinitely. One of the hospitals has closed entirely because they were set up for Covid patients and they have NONE. She needed to base her Exec Orders on "Safe" vs "Unsafe" not her irrational ideas about "Essential" and "Non-essential." It is my personal opinion that the contempt for Government that this has taught is going to have far-er reaching consequences than anyone in the Government has ever considered. The number of Black Markets this has opened up is thrilling my entrepreneurial little heart... 5

The lowest level of authority always reacts and adjust faster and more efficiently. . Edited April 17, 2020 by Dric902 4
LostinTexas
Too many people seem to want Socialism, welcome to Socialism (in some places more so than others.). I hope this is a reminder of what they are asking for. Unfortunately it very well may be a sign of things to come. We have given the "Land of the Free" to the crooked politicians, and just keep voting them right back in every 2 years, 6 for senators. They think they are in charge now. No one has stepped in to tell them they aren't. 3
Ramjet38
Everyone can put up with the discomfort for awhile, but when you have a family and no money with the bills piling up you start to think 'hey I need to take a chance so I can get back to work'.
PPQer
Wait until they realize their livelihoods were harmed for no real reason and the reaction was overdone. They should count their blessings. At least they didn't have to listen to a bunch of pundits talking politics.

Cheygriz
Since the pilgrims landed at Plymouth, our leaders have been responsible for implementing temporary measures for public safety. We have lost no rights or freedoms. We are indeed suffering under a temporary inconvenience, but that will end when the virus is controlled. Sometimes our leaders go too far, and other times, not far enough. They're only human. Patience will accomplish more than conspiracy theories.

Huaco Kid
They never did get me in the coop. I squawked and am hard to catch. And I crowed every chance I got. A new mantra I've been seeing a lot says that if you violate the directives, you automatically lose your "right" to medical care. Welcome to government medicare, when they finally manage to pull it off! 2

Coffee with them is a wonderful thing. But can't risk things. That being said...they live 10 minutes down the road and dad's garden is amazing with all the time he's put in. Had a couple of peaches from it the other day that were dripping with juice.
