In the early 50's Saturday bad movie matinees were a boisterous celebration of nonsense by hordes of young'uns. 12cents for an afternoon, cheap babysitting. I had a great time! 3

DocCasualty
A member of the 949th US Field Artillery Battalion examines a multiple German rocket gun, knocked out of action near Tarchamps (Luxembourg) beginning of 1945. (ETA - Nebelwerfer) I just ran across the pic above. My dad was First Sergeant with the 949th FA BN, part of Patton’s Third Army from their landing on Utah Beach through to the Army of Occupation - Germany. DocCasualty
1964 NY World’s Fair. There was an earlier pic of the UniRoyal Ferris wheel which still stands as a “giant” tire on the side of I-94 outside of Detroit. I actually went to the Fair when I was 6 years old. 2

That Uniroyal display is a reminder to me. About that time I ran 4 Goodyear Double Eagles "run flats" on my 56 Chrysler Imperial. You filled the inner tire and then you filled the outer tire through a Blue dot (IIRC) with something like a basket ball needle.

Gawd. lolMarx was a major manufacturer of toys in the States for fifty or so years. Maybe the major maker of playsets. They made a wide range of lower price trains as well, generally less costly than Lionel and Flyer offerings. railfancwb
This is Bristol. The photographer is standing in Tennessee facing into Virginia. Bristol was an interchange point between the Norfolk & Western and Southern. The Southern had dieselized while Norfolk and Western was still all steam. The passenger train is ready for the diesels to pull it into Tennessee, headed for Chattanooga. On the adjacent track the steam locomotive, which is one of the famous “J” class 4-8-4s, is backing toward the roundhouse. The locomotive exchange will be reversed the next morning when the sister train arrives from Chattanooga. The automobile at the right appears to be a Hudson Hornet circa 1952.
