I guess going for a kidney and getting a spleen is better than getting a gonkulator...

https://www.dailywire.com/news/doctors-took-out-wrong-organ-in-botched-surgery-that-took-five-specialists-to-unravel-lawsuit

A California woman who allegedly went into surgery to have a diseased kidney removed and came out missing her spleen in a screwup that took five specialists to figure out is suing, according to a report.

Sarajane Parfitt, 55, who is now facing another operation to remove the kidney, suffered severe emotional distress and is vulnerable to infections thanks to the botched operation, according to the suit.

“During this difficult time for patient Sarajane Parfitt and her family members, we offer our sympathy,” Community Regional Medical Center said in a statement to the Fresno Bee. “Because this case is pending, we are unable to comment.”

Recon who's missing a kidney that should have has a spleen removed?

Sad these things happen. Usually a settlement in the end, but I don't think I'd be seeking any warranty work from the doc. Some are really over booked, usually their own fault, but not always.

But no matter STILL AN MD !!

Don't disagree.  Just do your research.  I've been cut so many times its hard to keep track of.  Check out the schools and where they did their fellowship.  Make sure they align with your requirements and then hope the Dr. isn't having a bad day.    Mine were generally done in the A.M. and I always asked the Dr if he had his coffee yet!..  :)

These things happened before the Unaffordable Scare Act. Can't comment on the frequency, or if it got worse, but it happened.

Long ago I had a surgeon that was said to be "near the top of his class for chest cutters", operate on me for stomach tumor.  The morning after surgery he took my staples out "to see how the incision was progressing".  My incision started to split open.  After a week I had an open wound 1 inch wide all the way into my chest, the bottom sutures held but I got a horrendous infection.

The pus poured out of me so fast in such quantities that I used large compresses to soak it up, I stunk horribly, I was rotting!  The compress hand to be changed many times during the day.

I saw him twice, and each time he told me to bunch up some Q-tips and scrape the pus from the wound all the way to the bottom of the incision.  I was incredulous about this!

I called his boss, the owner of the clinic and said I was going to flush the wound with Hydrogen Peroxide!  Would this be a bad thing!  He said no.  I did and it started to heal.  I also found that my intrepid surgeon didn't believe in antibiotics so he wouldn't prescribe them.

I would up with an ugly scar 6 or 7 inches long and 1 " wide, I mean Ugly!  I also developed 3 hernias in my chest wall.  They would pop out if I held my breath under pressure.

I went to the owner of the clinic and demanded a different doctor or I would sue the clinic.  I was sent to a different clinic and a different surgeon that cleaned up my scar and fixed 2 of the 3 hernias in another operation.  Years later I now have a large hernia in the middle of my upper abdomen to remind me of that highly rated cutter!

I can't tell you how pissed I am that I didn't sue them for all the years of crap and second surgery I needed.  The intrepid surgeon left the clinic to work with some militia group in Idaho.  I hope they killed him!

Don't trust people without verification!  Don't be a nice guy when the expert is wrong!
