Many times in my grade school days during the winter I held a passing automobile's bumper sliding all the way to school and back.  My parents complained that overshoes weren't made as good as they used to since I was going through the soles so fast.

Little or no plowing the streets since they would pack down into ice anyway, little to no sanding till years later.  Some days if we had an ice storm no one would drive the streets...……………….  Except kids like me with the family car.  We could make that car dance for us on ice!

Maybe no guns were allowed in the saloon.  Tascosa had the reputation of being one of the toughest towns in Texas during its heyday in the early 1880s.  The town emerged briefly in the 1880s as an economic rival of Dodge City, Kansas.
