I rode in the cab with my dad on a passenger run this weekend.  His retirement job is engineering an afternoon run for a local railroad museum.

This was a diesel, but I reallly want to accompany him on a steam run someday. Not many guys still know how to run those old steam locomotives.

The local museum has a little passenger excursion and an Engineer for an hour program. I’m going to go run. I volunteered for them a few years ago. Might start that up again, if they can put me on a path to certification.

I want to run the 1000. UP’s first diesel switcher. NW1

I’ve seen those,

Ive got some pics from a cab that was on its way to a museum somewhere, when I get home, I’ll look for them.

lots of visibility, 24 brake equipment. For switching and yard work they were pretty cool.

12 or 15 hundred horsepower

I was in a wreck in a fire truck also. I was a passenger in the fire truck. A young female ran a stop sign and slammed into the truck we were in. Lights and siren running. Also we were on her right. Made us a little late getting to the fire.

See these everyday, usually 2or 3 up front and a pusher in the rear.

Distributed power, it runs in conjunction with the lead engine

we use it sometimes, but mostly not needed

Makes for a smooth run though
