President Trump called Monday for reforms at the intersection of mental health and gun laws -- including so-called "red flag laws" to take guns from those deemed a public risk -- in the wake of back-to-back mass shootings over the weekend that left at least 31 people dead.

The president notably did not call for explicit changes to gun laws beyond red flag laws, despite tweeting earlier Monday morning about the possibility of linking background check legislation to immigration reform. However, he said he is open and ready to listen to ideas "that will actually work."

Among his list of proposals, Trump called for reforms to mental health laws "to better identify mentally disturbed individuals who may commit acts of violence," adding that we must "make sure those people not only get treatment but when necessary, involuntary confinement."

“Mental illness and hatred pulls the trigger, not the gun," Trump said, going on to call for red-flag laws to allow the seizure of firearms from those judged to pose a grave risk to public safety.

Further, he called for policing the "dark recesses of the Internet" in a bid to catch mass murderers before they act.

"We must do a better job at identifying and acting on early warning signs," Trump said. "I am directing the Department of Justice to work in partnership with local, state, and federal agencies and social media companies to develop tools to identify mass shooters before they strike."

Trump on Monday touted his administration’s record on gun measures, noting that last year he ordered a ban on bump stocks and “all devices” that otherwise turn legal weapons into “illegal machine guns.”

A bump stock is an attachment that allows a semi-automatic rifle to achieve a fully automatic weapon’s “cyclic firing rate to mimic nearly continuous automatic fire,” according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF.) Semi-automatic rifles with bump stocks can fire hundreds of rounds per minute, according to experts.

Experts may distort things to achieve an end, just as any another person.  Just because they may have much more study in one field, doesn't mean that they are more knowledgeable about everything.

Mental illness makes people do bizarre things involving potentially dangerous tools.  While a lack of mental illness means that people can use these same potentially dangerous tools to improve and even prolong the lives of others.

A prime example is in England where they believe that to stop knife crime they must control all knives available to the general public, the sane ones that threaten no one.

One of the most interesting things I learned about "experts" involved a family person that was a psychiatrist.

This person (the psychiatrist) got mad at her boyfriend, my BIL and one day she literally stamped shoe prints all down the side of his new car.

I asked her how she could do this, and still treat others for mental problems.  I was alluding to the fact that, if she couldn't control her own temper, how was she able to produce a diagnosis without bias on others.

She said that in her training for this profession, she was required to go to counseling.  She said that she was supposed to know her own character failings so she could factor that into the treatment of others.

I said, "If you can't control your own emotions, how does that allow you to be objective in treating someone else.  She didn't like where this was going and walked away.

My point is that just because you know a lot about your field, it doesn't ensure that your view reflects objectivity in analyzing  other people.

Objectivity is the most difficult requirement for producing valid data.  Many times, the more you know, the more apt you are to ignore objectivity and predict the results based on your biases and perceived expertise, instead of a valid objective analysis of the problem.

Each and every one of us views another person's problems from our very limited perspective and knowledge.  This includes degreed professionals as much as anyone else.

Every expert view a problem from their narrow field of view.  For example, Doctors that have a latent fear of firearms will view the desire to collect firearms and shooting for sport, as a mental problem.  When the diagnosis is based on their fears and not on reality.  While a mechanical engineer may look at a firearm enthusiast as a person the appreciated fine machinery and intricate mechanisms.

Their are many hobbies in this world that are inexplicable to those who don't share the interest.  Just because it isn't what you enjoy, doesn't mean that it must be a mental problem to the those that do.

How many times have you been lectured on obesity by an overweight doctor.

The most insightful post in the responses to this video:

"...You wanna make Thor female?” (Drinks beer) Great opener, but too many people actually think Marvel created Thor...".

Norse mythology created Thor. Thor was the husband of the fertility goddess Sif, who is the mother of his son Modi and daughter Thrud; his other son, Magni, may be the offspring of a union with the giantess Jarnsaxa.

Comic book movie makers want to make him a woman. Talk about re-writing history and a lack of continuity. This is an veiled attempt to get money from the few that think men should be imprisoned and slaughtered.

"...writer for The Guardian Julie Bindel told the “misogynist trolls” on Twitter that “[a]ll men are rapists and should be put in prison then shot.”..."  https://www.dailywire.com/news/8386/feminist-journalist-all-men-are-rapists-and-should-amanda-prestigiacomo

But she believes as do some others, that this is because men are violent...……………...

How to reduce mass shootings

Remember the good old days when a nut job would shoot up a McDonald’s because he wanted to “hunt humans” or shoot up a workplace because Batty Sue rejected him?

Now its political, the younger generation is more isolated than the pre industrial farmers by the online communities that feed into a self sustaining spiral of extremism on both sides.

The El Paso shooter was fighting the INVASION of his beloved country by the Mexicans enabled by the socialist commies in Congress. Is online presence was likely Alex Jones, Stormfront, and any other that fired up his own ignorance. Helped by the Talking Heads spouting the collapse of the country, Omar, AOC, etc.

The Dayton shooter was fighting the Nazi takeover by the racist, LGBTQWTF haters, the misogynistic ***** grabbers, and the killers of migrant children in cages. Fed by Maddow, MSNBC, Warren, Sanders, AOC, etc

We still have the nutjobs, they just get fed by politicians and media in a bubble of their own psychosis. and every time it happens, these same sources repeat the same idiocy over and over again. you want to reduce mass shootings? Stop the political bullshit.

Just because somebody disagrees with your party doesn’t make them evil incarnate, haters, killers, Nazi, Stalin, etc. we don’t vote for anything anymore, we must vote to defeat the “evil of the world from destroying the planet” or “defending our way of life from those who would destroy the country”

Politicians, talking heads, commentators, race baiters, make a living off of keeping the low IQ faction “fired up” and on the edge of their seat waiting for the next attack on everything they hold dear by the (fill in the blank)

Someone that doesn’t agree with your tax plan or budget priorities is not a Satan worshiping commie bent on destroying your way of life and putting you in FEMA camps or just killing you outright because they didn’t vote along with “your guy”

Can we go back to “going postal” instead of “fighting the Nazi Concentration Camp baby killers who hate everything warm and fuzzy” or “defending our very way of life from those commie socialists who want take away God, baseball, and apple pie”

Get a freaking grip

Federal immigration officials have released more than 218,000 migrant family members from custody since December, reflecting the huge backlog of U.S. immigration courts.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, tasked with carrying out removal orders for illegal aliens living in the U.S., has been forced to let go a total of 108,400 migrants over the past eight months, an agency spokesperson confirmed to The Daily Caller News Foundation. The Washington Examiner first reported the figures.

Of the 218,400 members of family units who were released, around 82,300 were dropped off in San Antonio, Texas, and approximately 74,700 were let go in El Paso, Texas, according to information the agency provided.

Some 41,000 aliens held in Phoenix have been permitted to be released, and San Diego let loose another 20,400.
