1950 - 1953.

Korean War -- uh, police action.

Though the United States contributed most of the troops and overall conduct of the war, er, police action, it was  the United Nations opposing the North Koreans/Chinese.

Troops from many nations participated, though again,  the US contributed the vast majority of people and stuff.

And suffered most of the casualties.

55,000.

Here's to you, lads.

Congress abdicated it’s Constitutional responsibility to declare war after WWII and we haven’t won any since.

Perhaps, but we had Peace With Honor in Vietnam, didn't we? -- until the communists easily overran the corrupt government in the south a year later.

Kinda like Afghanistan.

Peace with honor is a politician's way to say, We turned tail and ran away.

We haven't won any wars since the Air Force split off from the Army.

The United States Congress has not declared war since 1941, thus, no official wars win to since since then.

In 1950, President Truman simply ordered US forces into the Korean civil war on the ROK side.

In 1964, Lyndon Johnson and Robert McNamara lied and schemed to get the US involved in IndoChina with the so-called Gulf of Tonkin Incident that led to the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, eagerly supported by both parties in Congress.  That resolution basically told LBJ, You and McNamara do whatever you want.

And they did.

Note that LBJ, in addition to making the public believe that he had a huge dick, was following the Domino Theory as proposed by Eisenhower.

The first Gulf War and the Iraq invasion were supposedly justified because the Iraq was violating UN resolutions.

Again, Congress said, Do whatever you want, kill as many American boys (and girls) as you need to, just don't ask any of us to take a stand, yea or nay.

As for Afghanistan, George Bush basically asserted that he, as President, had the legal right and obligation to pursue and prosecute those that committed the 11 September 2001 attacks.

As always, Congress, both parties, both houses, hid under their desks, fingers plugging their ears and singing, 'La la la la la,'  rather than be forced to even ask if such actions by a President were legal.

The Air Force has long wanted to get rid of the A-10 Warthog. No glamor flying those. They are not a path to the top. That the Army troops on the ground live tgem is irrelevant.

The warriors in the AF are the ones that want to retain the A-10, the top dogs who get a slice of the kickbacks for new aircraft and appropriations want to kill the program. The only thing, the ONLY thing good I can remember about John McCain was that he fought to keep the A-10's flying.
