tous
Do you get the RS option or not? You do opt for the SS option, the four-speed manual and 396, of course. I liked the headlight doors and better-looking tail lights that came with the RS package, but that's just me. How would you option your first-generation Camaro?
astepup
I'd get the RS/SS package. Not many made and I have seen a couple in person. VERY sweet rides.
tous
It's funny. I hate red cars. I have and likely never will own a red car. Yet, I love the Ferraris and the first-generation Camaro in bright red. Mebbe it's just me that's funny in the head, eh?
JJHNSN
In 1967 I was five years old. I would not have been buying a car.
Grabbrass
I was born in 1967. If I could have had a car bought for me, I think I'd go with a Buick GS340 instead. Better investment. Edited August 23, 2017 by Grabbrass

tous
I was in my last year of high school in 1967-1968. The Camaro was the car of my dreams and I spent more than a few hours drooling over them at the local dealership. Sadly, my father purchased a 1967 Chevrolet Impala that year. Four doors, 327, Powerglide. Great family sedan, but it wasn't a Camaro SS/RS. And no, the Impala wasn't red. It was that seafoam green color. Many of my classmates were Mustang and Barracuda fans, but the Camaro holds my heart to this day.

This is probably what I would done if I had to buy a Camaro, but I would have held out for a '68 Charger R/T with a Hemi and a four speed.
tous
So, the question was, if you were buying a Camaro in 1967-1969, would you have opted for the RS package. A hypothetical question. You know, based on the set of conditions stated. Doesn't have to be real. Use your imagination. I did not ask what car would be a superior investment fifty years later. To which some of you replied that you weren't born then, and others maintain that they would have purchased a different automobile. Thanks for playing.

Joe!
I'd definitely check the RS box. I suppose I'm due, having had both 67 & 68 non-RS Camaros. I did have an 73 RS, though.
geeorge
I would have gone with a Yenko version with their highest output engine option Edited August 23, 2017 by geeorge
elsolo
No to the RS option. The hideaway headlights were troublesome, and I am more into a bare bones equipped muscle car. Copo 427 if I knew about it at the time, otherwise just a SS396 375hp, m22 Part of me says a 69 Z28 with the JL8 brakes

Ford guy here as well, but the RS/SS 396 cars were just plain impressive. I'd definitely opt for the RS package; love the hideaway headlight look. My favorite musclecar of all time is the 1970 Torino GT with the hideaway headlights. The one I had never gave me a bit of trouble...
KBKEITH
I'm playing by tous's rules even though I was born in 1968. I'm going with the SS package. I want the Muncie mated to the big block.

A friend of mind owned a blue convertible RS/SS with a white interior. It was pretty sweet. Regards, Happyguy
refugeepj
in 69 i narrowed my decision to either a new 396SS Camaro, or a '68 Dodge Charger 383 four speed. decided on the Dodge, 10,000 on the clock for $2,000. the new Camaro would have been an additional $1,000. wish i had purchased both, and treated them with respect, rather than driving the door of the Charger. those were good days. glad i survived.
Mayhem like me
I had a 68 396 RS/SS but I bought it in 78 , with 40K miles. All it needed was a throw out bearing easy fix.

Mayhem like me
I am now looking for a 69-70 Mach 1 428SCJ 4 speed, I always wanted one. With good tires wheels some suspension tweaks and good brakes I think it would be a fun weekend car.

tous
Let us expand the hypothesis some. What was the automobile that you listed for in high school? Forget future investment value, poor brakes, poorly-functioning headlight doors or an automobile, such as Yenko Chevrolet that few if any could purchase. When you were sixteen - seventeen years old, what was your dream car? If you had the means, what car would you run to the dealership for? As I mentioned, I hankered after a first-generation Camaro with both SS and RS options. Of course, at the time, we didn't know that there would be a second- or third-generation. Not red. No convertible. I also really admired the 1968 Plymouth Barracuda.

jmohme
I remember going to the drag races In 1969, I watched a bone stock Rambler AMX kick the butts of every Camaro that went up against it. Seemed to be a somewhat embarrassing situation for the Chevy owners.
