I had an uncle who was an AMA bike racer in the sixties, for Team Harley Davidson. He is in the AMA Hall of Fame. His name was Freddie Nix.

I remember reading about and seeing your uncle's photo in a cycle magazine or in the Enthusiast magazine when I was a youngster. tom.

You are the first person outside of my family that has heard of him. It was a long time ago, I guess.

I've been a motorcycle enthusiast since I was six years old. Almost 60 years of reading and riding. Some people spend time watching sports on TV that they never participated in. I always went deep into what hobbies and recreations that I did participate in. tom. :cowboy2:

Yes he was. My grandfather worked for the Kaufmann's back in the twenties~forties and took our family up there to see the attraction. It is out of this world. tom.

Wright reportedly loved Arizona. He did almost a dozen projects there. I saw many of them when I lived in Phoenix.

I don't remember him in the jumping/BASE community back then.  If this was his first time, it is no wonder he didn't survive.  180 feet is pretty low for non assisted BASE.  Thinking it through, one would choose a canopy that is quickly releasable.  I don't know if his was.

According to the original article, he had a “rocket-propelled parachute attachment”, whatever that means.

He had marvelous looking homes but with "design" problems.

If a person's reach doesn't occasionally exceed his grasp, he isn't trying hard enough.

Maybe something like this.  I don't know.  I'm not a hang/paraglider.

That makes sense and fits the description. It also makes sense why it failed, given the attitude, and altitude, he came off of the jet ski.
