Actually, her mother was good to me.  She, at times, liked me better than my wife.  I sometimes tell my wife that I should have married her mother instead..........  She agrees that her mother liked me better than she liked her...........

We would argue, and when arriving at her mother's she would storm into the house and complain about me.  Her mother would calmly ask her what she did now.....  heh....heh....heh..............

You are lucky. My in-laws don’t like me. It has been a 35 year struggle.

But my wife had it worse. My mom flat out hated her.

My wife was afraid of my father.  My mother was driven away long ago so she only knew my father who raised us kids.  My father believed that to show emotion was a weakness and people would take advantage of any weakness you showed.

My father was a strict disiplinarian but never touched us kid, he disiplined with words.

When I sent my wife a plane ticket to come to Charleston, SC to marry me, she told my older sister, who then told my dad.  I had told no one.

My sister accompanied my fiance to Charleston,  since my wife had never been out of state and was quite naive.

My wife was stunned as my father told her he would take her the 60 miles to the airport to her flight.  As she rode with my sister and my father, she said she learned just how emotional my father was.  She said he talked with her all the way to the airport and even had tears in his eyes when she left for the plane.

She said that on that trip she leaned just how much my father cared for her and me.

I have never heard my father say he loved me, but I knew he cared for us both.
