Operation Eldest Son was an incredibly intricate plan. They had DuPont create a high explosive powder that looked exactly like the standard soviet arsenal powder. It was mostly 7.62X39 ammo but a few grenades, mortars, mines, RPGs and even artillery shells were doctored. Vetting the bogus documents was brilliant. John Plaster’s writing about it if a great read.

I once found 30 unfired rounds of .45 ACP in the sweep bucket at my indoor range. Following my standard practice, I pulled them rather than shot them, and found they were full (like compressed) of what looked like Bullseye. I assume the new reloader blowed up his 1911 with the first round and threw the others away. :shocked:
