Where to verify value of classic / Black Powder guns?

I have a friend whose husband died, unexpectedly and left a safe full of old firearms. I have not seen them, yet.

She referred to them as "not modern" guns.

I asked if they were black powder firearms and she said "I think so".

Other than gunbroker, what is a good resource for checking value?

I think I’d save the effort til you saw the guns. ‘Not modern’ and ‘I think so’ cover a lot of ground.

I don't know where you live, but there is a muzzleloading shop that may be of help. Been there several times, and it a great store.

The Log cabin Shop is in Ohio. Never been there, but it has a good reputation.

The Track of the Wolf is online, they might be worth looking at, as well.

It's one like this, but in .45acp rather than 9mm or .30cal Luger. And yes, it's worth that much.

Last I heard, only one in existence. 4 made, I think. One offs for Germany's offering for the US Army trials. 1911 won.

Considering the “butterfly flapping wings causes hurricane” approach to cause and effect, wonder how different the world would be today had the Luger won the competition and been adopted by the United States.

Probably not much at all. The few handguns that really made a world changing difference were used by assassins, like this.

Image result for gavrilo princip's handgun

Hardly a world changing design, until Gavrilo Princip killed Archduke Ferdinand with it , precipitating the First World War and all the horrors and change that followed
