Aint that just like a damn (Your choice of epithet). Trying to steal more chain than he can swim across the river with. If a snake bit that sumnabitch, the damned snake would die. In Minnesota, My daughter used that phrase with a customer a few weeks ago. She thought it expressed "endearment". It seemed that customer was from the South, and told her what it really meant! She apologized and assured them that she would use it appropriately from now on.
janice6
It seems that in today's politics we are seeing the truth to an old adage I have heard from my earliest days. "You can't make a Silk purse out of a Sow's ear!" Edited October 11, 2020 by janice6
Cheygriz
Lay down with dogs, get up with fleas. You're known by the company you keep. You can trust an enemy to be an enemy. How many friends can you say that about. 2

Maser
There is a phrase that was taught to me when I was much younger by an older friend who was a WW2 vet. I forget how the convo was started, but I think it was on the subject of gossiping. Was right around the time I was let out of baby prison so that's why I think it was gossiping that started it. Anyways, the quote was "only hear from the horse's mouth and not from the horse's ass." That phrase has served me quite nice as I grew up and has been not only passed to my wife, but also our two sons. 1
