Would the president be capable of pardoning or commuting a sentence for a member of the military under court martial? (I really don't know). Also, could he not flex some influence over procecuters, albeit informally?

A plea deal of some sort might actually be a fair outcome, depending on the merits of the case, which I don't know at this time.
Dric902
I used to think I was just a regular guy, but . . . I was born white, which now, whether I like it or not, makes me a racist. I am a fiscal and moral conservative, which by today’s standards, makes me a fascist. I am heterosexual, which according to gay folks, now makes me a homophobic. I am a Christian, which now labels me as an infidel. I believe in the 2nd Amendment, which now makes me a member of the vast gun lobby. I am older than 60, which makes me a bit less than I used to be. I think and I reason, therefore I doubt much that the main stream media tells me, which must make me a reactionary. I am proud of my heritage and our inclusive American culture, which makes me a xenophobe. I value my safety and that of my family and I appreciate the police and the legal system, which makes me a right-wing extremist. I believe in hard work, fair play, and fair compensation according to each individual’s merits, which today makes me an anti-socialist. I believe in the defense and protection of the homeland for and by all citizens, which now makes me a militant. Recently, a sick old woman called me and my friends a “basket of deplorables”. I need to thank all my friends for sticking with me through these abrupt, new found challenges in my life and my thinking! I just can’t imagine or understand what’s happened to me so quickly! Funny . . . it’s all taken place over just the last 7 or 8 years! And if all this wasn’t enough to deal with. I’m now afraid to go into either restroom! . 2

C_Hallbert
Whats the penalty for not following an oath? . Well, if you refuse to swear an oath when enlisting or accepting a commission in our Armed Services, you are not accepted. If you refuse to take the oath swearing to speak the truth as a witness in court, the judge will declare that you are in contempt and you face fine or jail time to think it over.....Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Dric902
I didn’t say not taking it whats the penalty for violating it? who determines the violation? maybe they think they are actually defending the Constitution, but you think they are violating their oath. if Pelosi took the oath of office but had her fingers crossed, is she held to it? just politics man, just politics . Dric902
In proposing $1.6 billion in border security funding, Schumer has said it would go to building new or repairing existing fences, rather than the wall as Trump has proposed it. The White House appears to want to claim that funding as "wall" money to promote a victory. Trump has also claimed his administration has built large portions of the wall. But Congress has only authorized money to build fencing similar to existing structures. The president has also contended that the military could build the wall — though the Pentagon has said it has no plans to do so, yet. https://www.cnbc.com/2018/12/18/white-house-suggests-it-will-back-down-on-5-billion-border-wall-demand.html . Dric902
The Trump administration moved Tuesday to officially ban bump stocks, which allow semi-automatic weapons to fire rapidly like automatic firearms, and has made them illegal to possess beginning in late March. https://apnews.com/6c1af80fb290472c89fb930e223505af . Dric902
“Today’s stipulation accomplishes a key piece of the relief sought in our lawsuit earlier this year,” said New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood in a statement. “Under the terms, the Trump Foundation can only dissolve under judicial supervision – and it can only distribute its remaining charitable assets to reputable organizations approved by my office.” The attorney general’s lawsuit alleged that the president and his three eldest children, who served as members of the foundation’s board, repeatedly used charitable donations for personal, political and business gains, including legal settlements, campaign contributions and even to purchase a portrait of Trump to hang at one of his hotels. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/embattled-trump-foundation-agrees-dissolve-agreement-york-ag/story?id=59884847 .
