On April 4th, for example, the IHME model predicted there would be between 120,963 and 203,436 Americans requiring hospitalization, with the average of that range being 164,745. In reality, there were 18,998. […]

That’s just hospitalizations, when it comes to intensive care beds, the difference between the projections and reality show an equally large gap. The average projected ICU beds needed on April 4th was 31,057; the reality was 4,686. That’s across the country, not just New York. Even after factoring in the caveats about missing states, that’s a miss akin to swinging and striking out on a pickoff to second base.

Trump approves New York request to treat coronavirus patients on Navy hospital ship

President Donald Trump said Monday that he granted New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo's request to treat novel coronavirus patients on a hospital ship docked off of Manhattan.

Cuomo had told reporters earlier Monday that he was "going to call the President this afternoon and ask him to shift the (USNS) Comfort from non-Covid to Covid."

Trump, speaking at a White House news briefing Monday afternoon, said he "was informed that Gov. Cuomo has already told you and announced he called me up a little while ago and asked whether or not it would be possible to use the ship with respect to fighting the virus."

Suddenly, Neither Liberty nor Civilization Is Assured

The two biggest uncertainties about the post-COVID-19 world are whether any privacy will survive and whether China or the United States will dominate. With regards to the first, the Guardian rhetorically asks whether you would  trade the total loss of your privacy for safety from the coronavirus, even if it meant entering a "cybergulag." That's what Russia is planning to do and China already did.  As the City Journal put it, perhaps the only way out of the lockdowns  is to voluntarily submit to 24x7 electronic tracking.

Russia already is using this as justification for facial recognition.

Remember our national and some local law enforcement have proposed "Facial Recognition" to find and track individuals. for a multitude of reasons

The use of the internal cell phone tracking and location finding/reporting, utilizing multiple cell towers is in use right now.

You see this in many communities where law enforcement is locating individuals for purposes of protecting or apprehending them, by using their  cell phone reporting.  It only has to have a battery in it.  When you are not using it, it still reports to cell towers so they know which tower to route the phone call to you, from.

Many opportunities are in use and to coordinate these would be monstrous.

Watching the China Virus fiasco is pretty unfun. Something occurred to me and I thought I'd put it to y'all, since you're all well-read lovers of liberty.

Why didn't Thufir strangle the cat?

I look forward to your replies. ;)

Worried that $2 trillion law wasn’t enough, Trump and congressional leaders converge on need for new coronavirus economic package

Trump has signaled support for some of the ideas that Democrats back, such as expanded help for small-business owners and new bailout checks for households. Republican leaders, meanwhile, have also called for more corporate aid and money to boost the overwhelmed health-care system.

Crewmember on Navy hospital ship Comfort tests positive for coronavirus

A crew member aboard the U.S. Navy hospital ship USNS Comfort has tested positive for novel coronavirus and is currently in isolation aboard the ship that is currently docked in New York City, according to a U.S. Navy statement.

The news comes on the same day that the hospital ship was designated to begin treating COVID-19 patients in New York City, a reversal from the earlier policy that it could only treat patients not infected with the coronavirus.
