European leaders 'scared to death' Trump will pull US troops home

I think it's great to get them concerned about their own defense.

"European leaders are reportedly nervous that President Donald Trump will make good on his campaign promise to withdraw American troops from the continent if host countries fail to pay their fair share for defense."

"According to Pew Research Data, more than 60,000 U.S. troops are currently stationed in Europe, including 35,000 in Germany, 12,000 in Italy, 8,500 in Britain, and 3,300 in Spain, with thousands more rotating into other European countries per circumstance."

I didn't serve in the military, so I say this with no first hand experience.

Either way, I think Trump should reduce troops from around the globe.  We are not, and should not be, the world's police.  And while I agree that other counties should be paying their "fair share,"  I dislike Trump's position of pay up or else...  You don't find the US Military in the back classifieds of Soldier of Fortune

Someone has to be the world's police. I don't think you would like the alternative. The big problem is that much of the world has been freeloading off us for a very long time. That has to stop.

If I was the leader of a European country I'd be scared too; seeing the Oval Office is no longer occupied by a foreign traitor, but an American patriot.

This guy doesn't call a bluff, unless he's already holding the "Trump" card.

I would never enter into a debate over every aspect of Trumps presidency up until now, mostly because I don't follow it that closely. But over all I like him as our president. I think we needed someone like him to "counter" the previous eight years. Some may argue to include a few more years prior to that!

That's the only thing they listen too.  Good example is N. Korea, they played games for years until someone got tough and they still are seeing what they can get away with.

We are not only the world's police, we are also the world's protector, the world's bank account, the world's consumer, the world's crutch, etc. Everyone wants to take take take from the USA but they never want to give back. And then in turn they snub us and pretend like they are standing on some kind of moral high ground when we need support. We need to keep our military around the globe but only in places that provide the U.S. with a key military advantages. In all matters foreign and domestic we need to put America first and keep America first. Everyone else can either get on board with the winning team or they can make do on their own.

Let us take care of America and Americans first.

I like what BatesMotel said -  bring our men home and have them protect our borders.

This insanity of allowing illegal Aliens to come into our country and become parasites on our economy has got to stop.

I agree with this letter to the LAS VEGAS SUN

Letter to the editor:

Trump has put America first

By Robert Carreau, Las Vegas

Thursday, July 5, 2018 | 2 a.m.

Our president dares to go where no politician has gone before.

We have been picking up the check for our allies for decades. Our president is trying to deal with them on an equal basis. Let the free market determine the products that are tradeable.

Tax cuts have stimulated a booming economy.

Millions have given up government handouts in exchange for gainful employment, and through attrition, 30,000 federal jobs have been purged.

The Paris Accord was a big global sham. China and India, the two dirtiest polluters in the world, were excluded.

President Donald Trump has fought progressives to a standstill. The election of 2018 will be the most important election in America’s history. You can vote to restore our Constitution, renew the American dream, protect our sovereignty and solve our many problems; or you can vote for socialism, dependency, open borders, and eventual insolvency.

But there are complaints that if the American people stop subsidizing these European socialist utopias they will have to discontinue most of their social programs.  Norway, Sweden, France etc have already been forced to make massive cuts.  I'm pretty sure this means that Americans are racist or something.

Which won't be much. They will be a good example for all others to learn from.

Even India know this!

Germany especially gives me heartburn. They spend their money on social programs for foreign "migrants" and yet let their military (such as it is) deteriorate. As of a few months ago, they had 4 fighter aircraft ready for an emergency. In the whole country. Zero submarines. Even their tanks and helicopters were nearly entirely out of service....

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2018/05/germanys-typhoon-problem-only-four-fighters-can-be-made-combat-ready/

I'm weary of other countries expecting us to fit the bill and supply the troops as well. Step up to the plate or we should make better use of our men and our military hardware.

they are terrified they will have to pay for defense instead of handing out all the treats and free health care and 3 day work weeks and green living standards and their Socialist utopia will come to a crashing end if it gets worse all the immigrants will rise up and start being Terrorists again......

maybe they should rethink the counter tariffs they threatened.

I just have to add this quote from the article I listed above. Classic stuff.

Quote: " And as Der Spiegel's Matthias Gebauer was told by a Bundeswehr source, "We can say with a good conscience that large parts of the [German armed forces] are mission ready, because there is currently no mission."

However, the entire world is a safer/better place, when America leads. No other country can come close to being the leader, when it's needed in the world, for major disasters, keeping tyrants in check, etc... But, do agree, that they all need to "pay up" for their defense.

Unfortunately, someone has to do it at certain times.

73 years is enough time for them to step up.

It's time those countries stop disliking us while taking our money and services.

Exactly.... I don't really have a huge problem with helping them (but I agree.. 73yrs.. You'd think they'd have it together by now)..  But they need to be footing a majority of the bill and then keep a civil tongue towards our leader.  They shouldn't expect they can say anything they want about our country and our leader and there be no consequences while we just stand by and ask, "Thank you sir, may I have another"

We run a $500B trade deficit every year. That's stuff that the rest of the world lets us buy, on credit, because they have faith that the US will continue to be a strong economy.

You can't have it both ways -- either we're the world's bank account or the world's consumer, we can't be both. It's logically inconsistent.
