I have some observations.

Note well that I have been missing my afternoon naps, so if this all sounds silly, I'm old, ain't too smart  and prone to flights of fancy.

Why does the government plan to send every citizen (or alien invader) a check?

Why not just fund the unemployment insurance programs already in place in every state?  They seem to be able to get money to folks efficiently.  Why invent another huge bureaucracy?

Yes, Nancy Pelosi wants more hospital beds, masks, ventilators and gloves in inventory for the next pandemic.

And, many folk want a year's supply of toilet paper right now.

Let us consider.

If I ran out and purchased 500 rolls of toilet paper, that money is sunk.  It's gone.  I cannot easily convert toilet paper to food, rent, utilities or debt payments.

Having cornered the market on Charmin is of little comfort if I'm sitting in the dark and eating my shoes.

Assume that Nancy gets her way and the government buys a bazillion masks, gloves and  ventilators.  Again, sunk funds.  They can't buy tanks or maintain national parks or pay the FBI if all of that money has been consumed with warehouses full of medical supplies that no one needs and may never need.  Not to mention the cost of storing and inventorying all of that stuff.

Mandate that every hospital, most of them privately-owned, keep 500 empty beds on hand just in case?

Hospital rooms cost money; Hospital beds cost money.  If a hospital has 80% of their beds empty --- just in case -- and no way to use them for revenue, how long can that hospital stay in business?

Thus, for the next pandemic or health crisis, rather than having too few hospital beds, we'll have no hospital beds because they all went bankrupt making Nancy happy.

The hippie socialists have the solution, of course.  Government-run health care.

Just ask Italy, Britain, France, China, Canada and Iran how well that is working for them.

Or Cuba.

Let's send Bernie to Cuba to study their system and hope it takes him ten years.

Sure hope he doesn't get sick.

Find, at all cost, the best PPE (Personal protective Equipment) and make it available to the nursing staff. Currently, nurses using what they have, are falliing victims to the noro virus. All the ventilators, all the patients, are screwed if there are no healthy nurses to care for them.

Stop threatening the population with medicare or any other government run universal healthcare system! Look at systems in place, well functioning, and COST EFFECTIVE, by looking at Denmark, Germany, Japan, Viet Nam, and South Korea.
