You can't declare yourself a true child of Florida unless you've stripped a few of the leaves and a flower or two off of the plant while running through the field barefooted. It's something you will never forget. From that time forward you will see one and cringe, remembering the fire that would cause you to scratch until it bled. Good ole days.
