How fast can an attack happen?

I always have to wonder in cases like this.  Do these people not have access to a length of rope or something similar?  Why get other's to do your suicide for you?  I guess it's the Socialist versions of suicide.

Question, hindsight obviously, no criticism of the guys on scene

why not pull in front of him 30 ft or so and block him there, rather than following him down the street? The ”area of incident” would have been smaller and controlled.

I'm glad they are both ok

As a LEO I'd have the gun out and on target the moment I see the knife and him ignoring the first order. I'd also keep more distance (21 feet) and stay close to my partner with the taser. The suspect running in-between the 2 LEOs turned the guy with the taser into a backstop.

As a civilian I would not drive by them and potentially run any of them over, I'd block the road so nobody drives into the line of fire.

... and after March 1st of this year, in MN, you would be sued and very potentially criminally charged.

I wish I was kidding, but the liberal legislature seriously revamped Minnesota statute on use of deadly force by police officers, to "reform" police.

In essence you have to exhaust ALL other options before using deadly force... yeah, get ready for the already record levels of crime from the past year to smash every record.

There is no longer a viable public safety system in MN.

The system is indeed broken when policies are written by outsiders with an agenda, all backed by the ill or uninformed as well as emotionally manipulated voters.

Once the crime rates go up, look out for the outcry to ""reform"" gun rights.

In my book its all created on purpose, used and abused, all for a power grab, resulting in socialism / globalism / one party system / you name it.

The proverbial trip to hell in a handbasket.

I plan to be even more boring and grey than usual for the next few years.  Hopefully the adults will be in charge again at some point.

I'm just a Thursday evening backup quarterback from the scab team with a glass of wine (maybe more, but who's counting), but it would seem prudent to have the squad approaching the whackerdoodle with the knife up the middle, and the occifers on foot flanking the vehicle (couldn't help but notice they weren't wearing hats ?‍♀️).  That way the squad could just boop the whackerdoodle knife wielding dipwad with a couple hundred thousand Newtons.

Now, they're going to have to go the the Plugs Biteme remedial school of, "just shoot'em in the leg, man!"

What makes you think things would have gone any differently?

Different result? Probably not

but how far did they walk behind this guy? Away from their vehicle with its lights on?

it seems that the encounter would have a smaller “footprint” and maybe traffic would not have been a possible issue. A few cars drive around and by the guy, close enough to jump on, in front of, try and jack.

Good guys went home,  bad guy didn’t. Good outcome as far as I’m concerned, but an after action report should talk about it.

Hey, I'm totally in their (the cops) corner, but the backstop for those shots was potentially a bunch of cars with people in them.  I think it's fair to game it and see if there was a way where when the shooting started they had a better backstop.  I'm not saying that they could have done that, but I do think it's fair to try to figure out a better way.

The last two shots don't worry me, once you've started sending signals under stress it can be hard to stop on a dime.  Just a few weeks ago I had a squib in my rifle (first ever) by the time the timer operator was able to say anything I had already fired the rest of the rounds.

Pull ahead, get out of your squad... he turns around and walks the other way. Exact same situation occurs. Or he goes left/right/etc. He was non-compliant and wasn't going to go along with any program.

I can guarantee the officers involved went through a debrief afterwards. SOP.

I’m sure they did

if he had turned and walked the other way, it would have been against the flow of traffic.
