Keep that long one for dove season.

I also have a 1200 in 16ga for doves that I got when I was 12.

I should say I have a 16ga 1200 that I got when I was 12. I use it for doves.

Update:

I took y'all's advice and didn't cut the Model 12's barrel. Instead, I swapped an older revolver for this little gem:

12ga Ithaca 37 Featherweight with 20" smoothbore DeerSlayer barrel.

I think I'll keep it stoked with two rounds of #4 shot followed by 00 for home defense. Makes a comforting click-clack welcome sound.

The best part?

It is a slam fire gun. Pull the trigger - hold it back and rack the action. Watch the lead fly!

I miss the old Ithaca.

Yep. They're both slam-fire-able. I took the Ithaca out and shot it today. Just what you'd expect.

Believe the Winchester Model 97 is also a slam fire. I have a ChiCom replica but have never tried slam fire so I don’t know how completely the Winchester was copied.
