I really loved using the Machine shop and it's lathe and mill especially.

But the first thing I learned was safety.  At one company our machinist ran his hand into a very large ball cutter on the tailstock...…  Twice!

Safety didn't seem to come along to much later as people got maimed.  Notice all the old picture lack safety glasses and other safety features.  This last picture the lady did have goggles and short sleeves which was a plus.

I understand.  At the time production was the emphasis, not the individual.

No. That was the recoiless launcher. This was the 280mm Atomic Annie self-propelled artillery piece.
