I was wrong about Trump

I recently wrote a column about why I believed Trump should not run in 2024. I was wrong. I allowed my distaste for Trump’s personality to override his virtues, which are considerable. Some people want Trump without his vices. I was among them -- until yesterday, when I watched and listened to Tom Klingenstein’s speech titled “Trump’s virtues.”  It was masterful and shamed me that I did not make the distinction between Trump's character and his virtues, the former being deeply flawed, the latter being almost perfect. I need to man up in my defense of the former President's virtues. The speech was among the most pointed I have heard and deserves some exposure. Klingenstein says:
“Other Republicans say some version of “I like Trump policies but I don’t like the rest of him.” This gets it almost backwards. Although Trump advanced many important policies, it is the 'rest of him' that contains the virtue that inspires the movement… Trump was born for the current crisis, a life and death struggle against a totalitarian enemy I call woke communism... that control all the cultural and economic powers in America… 
[Trump] revealed, not caused, the divide in this country. In war, you must make a stand… Trump is a manly man... traditional manhood, even when flawed, is absolutely essential… Trump plays to win... There are no clean hands in a fistfight…Trump is unreservedly, unquestionably pro-America… Trump is a refreshing break from the guilt and self-loathing that marks our age…”
It is anti-Americanism that makes so many of us very angry: The Left have trashed America's Founding and her history to the point where some believe it virtuous to hate America. Rather than advocating forgiveness for sins, the Left are advocating hair shirts, self-flagellation, and perpetual guilt. It is un-American and certainly un-Christian.
“Trump thinks we can vanquish all comers if we just put our minds to it, and he's right… Courage never demands perfection… Trump over and over said exactly what political correctness prohibits one from saying... Trump said Haiti is a shithole and that representative Maxine Waters has a low IQ. These were not racist lies. They were uncouth, politically incorrect observations that most of us would agree with but would not dare say.”
In 2016, we loved Trump for his outspokenness. But many seem to have changed their minds without cause; Trump is the same today as he was before he was elected. The very things we disdain today are the things that made him the man for our time.
“From morning to night, we were told that Trump is a racist. But endless repetition does not make it true. It isn’t. Trump’s contempt for political correctness showed patriotic Americans that its ever-tightening grip could be loosened... It is difficult to overestimate the significance of Trump’s fight against political correctness, a fight which most Republicans are reluctant to engage… Trump treated the woke media with the same contempt he treated political correctness, provoking their outrage and revealing their utter corruption... it must be defeated.”
I take back my unwillingness to engage Trump on his own terms. It is the Left, not we, who are politically correct. They are the ones restricting speech, cancelling and censoring, not we on the Right.
“Unlike most politicians, when Trump sees a problem, he goes out and fixes it. He fixed our porous borders. He moved our Israeli embassy to Jerusalem after decades of inaction. He eliminated hate-America critical race theory in his administrative agency. He developed a vaccine in record time. He achieved energy independence and much, much more.”
His accomplishments far outweigh his personality quirks. No other president did so much in so little time.
“Trump smoked rats out of hiding places. Because of Trump we know our intelligence agencies are corrupt. We know also that the mainstream media is not just biased, that it is the propaganda arm of the Democratic party.”
Had it not been for the vehement and irrational hatred of Trump, we never would have discovered that our own security and intelligence structures are compromised. I blame #NeverTrumpers for corrupting these Agencies. This unprecedented breach of the very security of this nation is unprecedented and deeply dangerous, leaving us open to the espionage of courtesans who prey on politicians who think with their private parts.
“A large part of Trump’s appeal was that he was a bona fide outsider. He distrusted the experts who believe they knew better than the average American how to run the country. This distrust was appealing to Trump’s base who believed, and with good reason, that is the experts who created the despotic mess in which we find ourselves.”
We always knew but never had anyone champion that we, not the Swamp, knew better how to manage our money, our time, our personal lives, our resources and our families. In their authoritarian mindsets, the Left wanted to take over all these very personal, uniquely American functions and replace it with governmental overreach. They nearly got their wish, had it not been for COVID's home zoom classes where we found out that very young children are being sexualized, perverted, deliberately alienated from their parents and taught to hate America and white people.

This most sensitive area of politics is a disaster. I believe the election was stolen and millions of others do. We now have evidence from many quarters that this is so. It cannot be permitted a repeat or there will be severe repercussions that will dwarf the current ones.
“Some will say that Trump is a bad man and that disqualifies him. I do not think Trump is a bad man, but for those who do I remind them that a bad man in some circumstances can be a good president. If you’re dying of thirst and there is only one person offering you water, you accept the water gratefully without much concern for the character of your rescuer.”
We wanted Trump not only to fix things; we wanted him to be perfect while doing it. That is unrealistic in the average family, the average relationship, the average business and the average political or cultural milieu. Yet some of us wanted Trump to be perfect enough to invite to tea. He is not that man. But he is the man for our tumultuous times.
“This enumeration of Trump’s virtues does not fully capture his uncommon courage and firmness of purpose. Trump is the most towering political figure in living memory… Trump inspired a movement. If properly deployed this movement might challenge the woke-comms, and God willing, save the country.”
These very things are what the Left hate, yet it is not their favor we need to care about. They will not embrace anyone on the Republican ticket and certainly not one they cannot bully. We need to stop worrying about acceptance of our candidates by the Left or they will have won.
“Republicans, however, should not forget that it is his support and the spirit they embrace that have become the life force of the Republican party. Among the talked-about alternatives to Trump I have not yet seen anyone who possesses or even understands Trump’s virtues. Nor have I seen anyone with his backbone and fortitude. One does not appreciate the strength of relentless gale-force winds until one is in the eye of the storm.”
…which is exactly where Trump and we are at this moment. We have to prepare for the gale-force winds we will encounter. To not do this is to ignore the lessons of the recent past and it will be forever to our sorrow to ignore them.
“His virtue must be the standard by which we judge other candidates.”
Amen and amen. We don't have to like his personality but his virtues far outweigh it. I humbly stand corrected and offer my mea culpa.

China Warns: Pelosi Trip Marks ‘Invasion’ and Military Has Right to Fire on Her Plane

A Chinese Communist Party mouthpiece said on Friday that it could shoot down Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's plane if she makes a stop in Taiwan, a move he said is tantamount to an "invasion" of the island.

"If U.S. fighter jets escort Pelosi’s plane into Taiwan, it is invasion," Hu Xijin, an analyst for the Chinese state-controlled Global Times propaganda outlet, said on Twitter. "The PLA has the right to forcibly dispel Pelosi’s plane and the U.S. fighter jets, including firing warning shots and making tactical movement of obstruction. If ineffective, then shoot them down."

Pelosi is scheduled to depart Friday for a tour of Asia and it has been rumored that she will visit Taiwan. Tensions have been high ahead of Pelosi’s trip, with the Chinese government warning her against making any stop in Taiwan, the contested island that China has repeatedly threatened to invade.

Pelosi will visit Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore. CNN reported on Friday that the Taiwan visit currently "remains uncertain."

Xijin also has said in recent days that the Chinese military should "accompany" Pelosi’s plane during her tour.

"The Chinese mainland must be brave enough to take this step of flying warplanes over the island, which, unlike warplanes flight around Taiwan, can truly reflect China's sovereignty over the territory, and is more substantial than any visit to Taiwan by senior foreign officials," Xijin said in comments highlighted by the Middle East Media Research Institute, which is tracking the situation. "Using Pelosi's visit to Taiwan to complete this leap is most likely to make it a peaceful transition."

President Brandon, on Saturday tested positive for Covid-19 once again after consecutive days of testing negative for the virus, his physician said.
Brandon, 79, is experiencing no new symptoms and “continues to feel quite well,” Dr. Kevin O’Connor said in a memo shared by the White House.
But he will nevertheless “reinitiate strict isolation procedures,” the presidential physician wrote.
O’Connor had previously warned of the potential for a “rebound” in positive test results, a phenomenon among a small percentage of patients who, like Brandon, used the antiviral medication Paxlovid as part of their treatment.
Brandon had accordingly “increased his testing cadence, both to protect people around him and to assure early detection of any return of viral replication,” O’Connor wrote in the latest memo, which was made public Saturday afternoon.
The president tested negative for Covid on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, but tested positive on Saturday morning from an antigen test. “This is fact represents ‘rebound’ positivity,” the doctor wrote.

In this day and age, anybody who doesn't know how the Palestinians feel about homosexuality, or Jews, or the "Great Satan", is just ignorant on purpose or lying. The Palestinians haven't exactly been quiet about how much hate they have for all these things.

Transforming America into a College Campus
The Left’s immediate aim is the closing of the American mind. Their ultimate aim is the cancellation of our free republic.

In the lust to destroy free speech (as well as other God-given rights recognized in the United States Constitution they find “problematic”), the Left has systematically implemented a Maoist strategy of indoctrination, disinformation, and weaponization of race, gender, and sundry “isms” to turn America into a college campus, wherein those projecting totalitarian, iron-fisted rule brook no dissent (or wisdom).
It begins with a perverse inversion of how human beings traditionally have categorized and addressed issues based upon an individual’s age and/or maturity. The Left indoctrinates with their secular religion on matters such as race and gender throughout the educational process, even including kindergartners in many school districts. Foisting such indoctrination and decisions—and often deliberately hiding it from the child’s parents—is despicable, and deliberately done to destroy the children’s innocence.
Then, as these abused children matriculate to higher education, the indoctrination continues from the orientation process through graduation. The Left’s insidious twist, however, is that their higher education is not designed to foster critical thinking, maturity, and independence. Having treated children as adults to begin their brainwashing, they now treat college students as children to stunt their emotional development. It is a toxic brew of inculcated ignorance, intolerance, and irrationality that spawns intellectual cowards. As a friend observes, the result is that Leftist academics “are raising a generation that is unwilling to and/or incapable of defending their ‘ideas’ or to engage in critical thinking.”
In sum, the Left has turned these students’ brains into left-wing bumper stickers. Still, when out on the street one can try to voice one’s opinion at a bumper sticker, though all one receives in retort is the same glib, annoying sophistry as it speeds away. On a college campus, the free speech-loathing Left has instituted “safe spaces,” “speech codes,” et al., and eviscerated due process to ensure one can’t even voice a contrary opinion to the bumper sticker, let alone try to deprogram the student to which it’s been affixed.
Oh, and when the car bearing the bumper sticker speeds away and runs you over in the shadow of the ivory tower? You get the ticket.
The students who most readily take to the Left’s secular religion end up in getting degrees in sundry “studies” programs that prepare them, not for productive livelihoods, but for positions as hectoring American commissars within government, corporations, the media, and—coming full circle—academia. The symbiosis of these entities has crafted a mandatory and revolving door for these American commissars. In this full employment scheme for the miseducated, their lack of productivity is not a bar, because they exist on the productivity of others in government and academia. It is a bit more difficult in for-profit entities, but this is why the Leftists in government demand the universal placement of their American commissar comrades in businesses and organizations, and provide subsidies to media and corporations.
For instance, academics flimsily or baselessly allege a new “ism” is infecting American life and must therefore be eradicated. Of course, these American commissars cannot and do not feel the need to provide any accurate or persuasive metrics as to what has caused the problem or how anyone will know the new societal evil has been vanquished. Their comrades in the media echo their allegations until leftists in the government, both the elected ones and, most importantly, the unelected bureaucratic ones (a.k.a., other fellow American commissars) demand corporations and other institutions must obey the latest dictate to combat this new societal injustice. Finally, the government weaponizes the “ism,” ascribes it to the regime’s political dissidents, and uses the police powers of the state to attack them. (If one doubts, ask Elon Musk.)

Back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, we knew the administration and faculty were disproportionately liberal in relation to the rest of the country. We knew that echoing the liberal line was not mandatory in most classes, though it could facilitate a higher grade in some instances. For their part, the liberal faculty was content to profess their ideology hoping it would fall upon fallow ground; and the administrators were committed to due process for all students. But the warning signs were there, as Allan Bloom foresaw.
The days when liberals ran the higher-ed roost are gone. These liberal academics have been cowed and/or purged by the radical Left (including tenured domestic terrorists). Yet it is not only happening in academia, but also in the media, corporations, and government, especially in the bureaucracy. The Left is transforming America into a college campus, where terms such as “liberty” get a trigger warning; freedom of conscience is subsumed beneath the Left’s secular religion; “whiteness” is the gravest societal sin; dissent is heresy; undue process is the rule; and the ultimate punishment is expulsion from society. The Left and its American commissars have as their immediate aim the closing of the American mind. Their ultimate aim is the cancellation of our free republic.

U.S. Postal Service Opens Permanent Political Division, Dedicated to the Delivery and Return of Mail-in Election Ballots, New USPS election division will oversee mail-in ballots.
With mail-in ballots becoming a feature of all future elections, the United States government, specifically the United States Postal Service (USPS) is now creating a permanent division inside USPS to control the delivery and return of the election ballots.  Do you know the political affiliation of your mail courier?
As often said, it’s not the vote that matters, it’s the counting…. or in this instance, the collection of the votes that really matters.  Democrat lawyer Mark Elias, in charge of protecting all fraudulent voting initiatives on behalf of the Democrat National Committee, is happy with the news.
Keep in mind the union representing 300,000 U.S. postal workers previously endorsed Democrat Joe Biden for president. The National Association of Letter Carriers, is a fully compromised left-wing division of the USPS.
The USPS has just created a division of NALC employees exclusively to handle mail-in voting, just in time for the mid-term election.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States Postal Service is creating a division to handle election mail issues as part of an effort to ensure swift and secure delivery of ballots for the 2022 midterm election, officials said Wednesday.
The idea behind the creation of the Election and Government Mail Services is to have a permanent division dedicated to dealing with election matters, instead of handling issues one at a time as in the past.
Adrienne Marshall, executive director of the division, said Wednesday that the services will oversee “election mail strike teams” in every local and district community to address any problems that might arise.  “We are fully committed to the secure and timely delivery of the nation’s election mail,” she said.
