1968 "Kiss Of Life"

This photo had a quite dramatic background as the photographer, Rocco Morabito, was driving as he spotted an electrician hanging upside down on his safety belt struck by 4,160 volts of electricity. He called an ambulance and in the meantime, another lineman climbed up and successfully rescued his colleague by performing mouth-to-mouth.

The row of piling stubs on our left has me wondering if this dock is abandoned.

The wooden dock looks like a hallowed chapel but was used to unload cargo ships. The docks were outfitted with attached chutes running the length of it. Ships would stop alongside the dock and the chutes would be lowered. The ore cargo would then be lowered onto the chutes. The Lower Harbor dock, like many other similar ones, is abandoned - but there are a few in Michigan that remain in use. Abandoned Lower Harbor Ore Dock

Some of my family and friends work in the area power company.  The lineman said that they would alternate going up the pole and tending from the ground.  This was to ensure that your partner would come up to help you since it might be his turn next,

Lineman that lost limbs through work accidents were kept on the payroll till retirement.  They deserved it.

The Duluth harbor still does grain that way but mechanized now.

It was a great tourist attraction in the past, to watch Iron Ore ships being loaded.
