Frost Quakes

Recommended Posts

Why are these new? That area of the country has had colder temperatures without mention of anything like this before. It’s like “Adult Sudden Death Syndrome” made up syndrome like this ice quake bull ****.

I live in Minnesota and -20 isn't unusual, but I have never heard of "Frost quakes".

When we moved into our new house (just constructed)  A few of the winters we experienced sudden snaps that could wake us up at night when the temp really dropped.  It was the structure stresses equalizing under the change in temps and almost all Minnesotans experience this.

After a couple of years the homes stabilize and no more snaps.

For substantiation, I live on 40 feet deep sugar sand, with no gravel.  No ground stresses and a 30 foot surface water table.

I was born and raised in Iowa, and I had never heard of them.  But that was MANY years ago, and they probably just didn't have a name for it.
