SC Tiger
Darrell Waltrip has announced he is retiring from Fox as a race announcer. https://www.foxnews.com/auto/darrell-waltrip-announces-retirement-from-fox-sports-nascar-team I know the antics and the "Boogity Boogity Boogity" got old, but if you get past that and actually listened to him, he knew his stuff. And he kept current on how the modern cars were driving. IMO this will not do Nascar or Fox any favors. My favorite Darrell - ism Larry Mac (I think): "Driver, you want two tires or four?" Darrell: "If you can figure out where to put 'em I'll take six!" I think that was at Darlington, which used to EAT tires. aomagrat
I was watching one of the first races with Darrell in the booth. They were reviewing a replay of a crash and one of the announcers ask Darrell to explain how the crash happened. Darrell said, "Ummm... He hit the wall." Hauptmann6
He knew his stuff, but his put on country hickisms made it unlistenable.
norton
I think DW saw the handwriting on the wall. It has become a younger mans game, and it needs younger announcers. Especially former drivers who can relate to the cars of today and the young drivers piloting them.
ARP
I was in the parking lot of his headquarters this week....Cornelius, NC. Across the street from Comfort Inn.
Huaco Kid
Long ago, when we lived in NC, Richard Petty got busted for tagging some old lady's rear bumper, in the fast lane on the interstate and sending her spinning off into the ditch. He apologized profusely, saying, "I don't know, it just happened."
