tadbart
So the guy who forged this manhole cover made (and lost) his fortune in Savannah, GA as the owner of an iron foundry. He also happened to be my great great grandfather's brother. I've offered a $1000 bounty to the person who delivers it to my door. ? minderasr
That's a great bit of family history. But I think DPW might object to someone leaving a gaping hole in the roadway. 2
G19Tony
Tell them your story. Offer to purchase the replacement for them, they may be amenable. Edited December 31, 2018 by G19Tony 8

KWalrad
$1,000 and you can look at my manhole. Just don't touch. That'd be weird. 2

tadbart
This thread went straight to the gutter. Oh, wait. I mean the sewer. Know what? Next time I'm up that way (once a year-ish), I think I just might go talk to the DPW guys with checkbook and lineage in hand. If ya don't ask, the answer is always no.
willie-pete
Ole William seems to have had his stuff together in Savannah You may be some long-lost heir they want to throw some inheritance at, At the very least Savannah ought to be able to spare a manhole cover or two for everything he did for the City. Never hurts to ask. https://www.wexsav.com/kehoes/#kehoe 2
tadbart
@willie-pete man, that's a great resource! Thanks for digging that up! Been to the Kehoe House there a couple times. Unfortunately, the last contact I had with that side of my family was 40 years ago when my dad died. Never really got deep into the family history, but this just might have sparked an interest! Thank you!
MDLOTT
So it's Thaddeus Barthomew Kehoe? Cool moniker. 2
tadbart
aaaaactually... That was what mom wanted to name me. Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed, but she still calls me that when I'm full of mischief. It just kinda stuck, as a good internet-y name. 4

G19Tony
After reading that, DPW may just give you one. When you graduate, you should start your practice there. Tell them you want one of the big houses back. Edited January 1, 2019 by G19Tony 3
