JimBianchi
A 2008 macbook Pro. has run well for the two years I've had it. I've done all the normal tests. SMC is the main culprit, I believe but I've had temporary success with other things also. I've replaced a few things that were common recommendations. New power port module and new battery, but solved the issue fro weeks of months, then it comes back. SMC reboot worked for a few days at a time, now not at all. Any idea would be great. Apple store is a LONG ways from me and terrible hours of operation, but that seems like the only option now.

I personally had a similar issue and it was my charger(I have two so I tested it with the other and it charged). They replaced it no problem in under 5 minutes. One of my olde Macbook Pro's will often not show that it is charging by the light on the connector, but the status bar will show the charge. CincyRed
Try resetting PRAM. Here's how to reset your PRAM: Shut down your machine. Yes, all the way down, not sleep or logging out. Press the power button and then press command-option-p-r. ... Hold those keys down until your Mac reboots again and you here the startup chime. Let go of the keys and let your Mac reboot normally. JimBianchi
I took it to the Apple Store. The new battery tested bad. Everything else tested out great. I have requested an RMO and ordered an OEM battery. Thanks for all your suggestions and help!
