He worked as a well driller in the area for his whole life, then retired. Retirement was boring for a guy that worked hard all his life so he lied about his age and got a job digging ditches for the city. He was buried alive twice. He told me it's not bad. He said you quick hunch over so you have an air pocket under you to breath and then you can hear them digging to get you out. He said to me to not panic, it's important to stay calm. I used to spend a couple of weeks each Summer with him going out to his work sites and talking with him all day. It was during the Summer when I was in early grade school, as I recall.
