My younger brother was driving home from a night shift refinery job in the PNW when a car that had passed him went off the road in front of him and caught fire. He stopped and pulled an unconscious drunk from the car just before it became fully involved in flames.  Another driver had called 911. Paul left before the cops arrived. Big write up in the paper about the anonymous guy who saved the drunk driver.

Popularity isn't a factor in doing what's right.  The satisfaction in helping someone in need is more personal.  The feeling that you made a difference is the best feeling.  Praise falls in a distant second place, to personal satisfaction.
