My parents had to replace their liner in the pool earlier this year. They have well water so my brother and I ordered a tanker truck to deliver water to refill the pool so as to not burn up their well pump.

I was shocked at the cost of that, $1200.00 plus the chemicals.

That homeowner has to deal with the water missing, plus the dirt blown in by the rotors, that would cost a few bucks. As DWARREN said, its either eat that loss for that or have the fire come in and wipe everything out. Sucks either way.

Considering how much it costs to keep a chopper in the air, I'd imagine the amount of money saved by not flying further away to another water source is probably enough to pay for the water used.

When has a government entity ever screwed something up and volunteered to fix it correctly? You are thinking the city/county that owns the chopper will be willing to compensate the homeowner for the damages caused, I am thinking without a major fight they will not. I understand why the pilot did what he did, but at the end of the day, he isn't paying for damages caused by his decision.

It will probably take a couple days of effort to get the chemical balance right, if they do not have to drain the pool because of whatever type of nasty stuff is on that bucket (soot from the fire, etc), plus the mess kicked up by the rotors. I would bet that the homeowner with the pool got the short end of the stick.

Again the alternative is their house might have burned down if the pilot went farther, so for the homeowner with the pool, it sucks either way.
